Thumbing up and condoning insults too now Mr Moderator? Wasn't A87 also called up for and warned about insults at the weekend (even when it wasn't him who dished out the first insult)?

This is not strictly true because we normally go on a hell of a run towards the latter part of the season

My point was that you were going on about facts - Piskie posted some facts ie we are 3 points off the top, we have players coming back and have just signed DM cover and are in the last 16 of the CL. (I believe he also mentioned earlier that we have won 2 trophies in the last 2 years)

You posted some facts ie we haven't won the league in 12 years, in previous seasons we have done well in the 1st half of seasons then trailed off because of certain reasons (you mentioned such things as injuries ect).

But you then talk about opinions and assumptions as if they are facts and as if the will lead to definite that will happen... which of course they aren't facts they are just your opinions

The PSG stuff in this post looks like a load of rubbish. Using the fact one of the top European clubs tried to poach our manager as a way to put him down? Seems like a massive logic fail on your behalf there. And I'd imagine the reason they haven't come back for him is because he made it clear he wants to stay at Arsenal until he retires. Why would they then keep trying to sign him? Your literally just saying whatever you can to put Wenger down.

But this has usually been when the final Champions League spot is at risk.

If you've noticed in the last few years that when we've head into January top of the table/very close to top of the table, we have been unable to maintain it to win the title.

And we tend to go on a winning run once we have nothing left to play for apart from 4th place or in other words, when there's little pressure.

Quote me, as usual, we'll crash out of the champions league in February, go on a poor run up until around mid-March and we'll once again be scrapping for a CL spot.

I can't even take solace in us retaining the FA Cup but I hope we do.

I don't say this as a pessimist. I say this as someone who sees the same
Pattern with Arsenal season after season after season.

But surely that is obvious, as if we had maintained that sort of form we'd have won the title on more than one occasion in the past 10 years, if not 5 years! Same as if we'd kept up the sort of form we show in some of the 2nd halves of seasons, such as the 2012-13 season then we'd have won a lot more. But history is no definite that the same thing is going to happen again, I mean at the start of the season some would have said that history shows that a Mourinho led Chelsea were hard to beat, would be highly motivated and would be among the top 2 teams in the league, but instead they were an embarrassment and nobody foresaw them scraping the bottom reaches of the league. Same (in opposite) with Leicester, and even to a lesser extent Watford. I definitely wouldn't have thought, based on their past performances, that Campbell would have a better season for us than Di Maria would manage for Man U last season!

That is my point though. When we have been top of the pile, we've succumbed to the pressure on our shoulders and faltered.

Looking at the most wins in an annual year from January to December is futile because the football season is from August to May. Those wins we stack up in the calendar year are irrelevant if it doesn't lead us to the title. You will probably disagree, but honestly, there are no valid excuses for us to not win the league this year. I'm not trying to be funny, but the fact Leicester are top of the league should tell us something.

History is no definite the same thing will happen again, but people will always use evidence from the past to form their judgment because previous experiences are all they have to go by. People can't make judgments on future events if they have not happened yet. Saying that 'it might not be this way' is complete conjecture and has no empirical basis. The situation Chelsea are in is a rarity and will not be a regular occurrence.

I definitely don't disagree - we should win the league this year, it's the best chance we've had in ages. What I disagree with is writing the team off and saying they've got no chance straight away. Or looking at the results from just half a season in previous seasons and deciding that our season is going to play out exactly like that, and doing it with such a cast iron negativity.

We have a great chance to win the league this season, we need to grab it.

Yeah agreed. I still think we will win the league.

To be honest a level of disappointment is understandable as its been 12 years since we last won a 'major' trophy. But I dont understand fans refusing to get behind the team.

The sheer constant misery on these boards is incredible. You would have thought we were in Aston Villas position.

In all honesty how many times over the last few years have we headed into January at the top of the league ??

This place is bad enough but you should see the meltdown on Twitter when we lose a game

I'm sorry but this is yet another straw man argument. I have not said that we have no chance nor have I written off our title hopes entirely. I've not seen many on this thread say this. What I have said is that I and others are sceptical about our title chances based on previous seasons gone by.

I can't fathom why this is such an unreasonable position to hold.
