The original Flamborough boathouse was built on this site and was used as a store for many years after it was decided to re-locate to the North Landing. The new house pictured was built on exactly the same site to accommodate the Inshore lifeboat when the larger off-shore boat was withdrawn and it was decided that the Brid and Filey boats could cover the area. The new Brid boathouse is being built to accommodate the new Shannon class off-shore boat that uses water jets for propulsion instead of propellers - very cutting edge for bigger boats. The Filey station is now to lose it's off-shore boat because Scarborough is getting a Shannon and this, alongside Brid, is viewed as sufficient cover due to their speed. I'm a Governor of the RNLI so I know this stuff! The Filey boathouse will house a new Inshore lifeboat rather than just becoming a store.
Or why utilities companies don't talk - we had a trench open that was back filled and opened 3 times for gas, water and electricity.
Similar happened near us on Stoneferry. Electric board came along and dug a trench alongside Croda they filled it in and city fibre 3 weeks later dug the new Tarmac pavement up. I wouldn't mind but the info for the works for both were on the roadworks website.
Annoyed me because the last utility to go in -Water. They cut through the gas and phone cables with the bucket of the JCB.
Been an ex matelot who was attached the SAR squadron down in Cornwall (Helston), I can say that these men and women are amazing people. I recall a rescue taking place during the festive season at daft o'clock in the morning, with the wind howling, it was bitterly cold and the seas were outragously heavy. This weather never deters those at the RNLI, they dont ignore their bleepersnor do they look out the window and think, "balls to that, it looks far to cold, wet and windy." They have saved numerous lives, so fellas, next time we see the collection tins.....every little helps.
There's a story there, Chazzman. She used to live in this cottage I now have lived in for twenty years. Bumped into her in town coupla weeks ago, She's still a cracker...
