I've looked at the fixture list. I think we can max get 15 points out of our remaining fixtures. That points us on 36 points. Unless Norwich or Bournemouth nosedive I think we're going down. And 15 points is generous, giving us wins against Bournemouth West Brom Swansea and Norwich away, as well as 3 draws which are questionable. more likely we get 12 points. Yep, we're ****ed.

Unless we get an unlikely win at Everton or say Stoke... or beat the Mackems... simply ****ed. Maybe Villa away if they're already relegated..but we couldn't even beat Villa at home.

This is our Leyton Orient moment for this season hopefully. Result doesn't matter - reaction to it does.

So, instead of Marveaux stroking sublime crosses for Riviere to score with bullet headers in the classic style of Ginola and Ferdinand, this just serves to highlights our fringe players are just as bad as we thought they were, and gives the mackems more to laugh about. What a great idea.

Hopefully this gets them overconfident and makes us pull our socks up, but in reality both teams will no doubt just churn out the same dross for the rest of the season.

We really are a complete cancer of a club. Everyone associated with today's result should be cast naked and screaming into the pit for an eternity of hard sodomy.

You really have to laugh at that Ashley c.ck sucker Peter Beardsley saying Newcastle haven't got a losing culture at the club. Well ,will someone tell him our 1st team, U.21's & U.18's have played a total of 55 league games between them and won a grand total of 14 games. If that's not a losing culture what is?

Would a striker even fix our problems our is it just the mindset of mediocrity? We really needed a progressive coach in like klopp to stop the rot. He not an idiot tho.

I'm no huge Macca fan, but you have to wonder how bad things were at the club, mentally, from Carver's sodomisation. I mean, we were diabolical and nailed on relegation candidates in the first 2 or 3 months, some of it was more akin to wet farts than football. Then we pulled a couple of performances out of nowhere - Spurs, Liverpool, before succumbing to our usual Xmas tricks, un-ably assisted by Mitrovic forgetting what his job is. But we've performed quite a few times. Some of the football has been the best we've seen since SBR was in charge - West Ham we should have been 4 or 5 to the good before half time. We had enough to beat Man U, Arsenal and Watford in the cup. Genuinely, the performances have belied the results. Now I'm not saying Macca's a great manager, but he's here and with our inept hierarchy isn't going anywhere. I was and remain generally excited by Steve Black, Schoenemaker, Cathro joining. Tactics have been wanting a little, but lessons have been learned (Gini's in the middle, Thauvin's not in the team, we're not 'relying' on Obertan or Gouffran) it's just we're a touch worse off.

In the grand scheme of things we obviously need results but for everything a reason - maybe we needed to be down there struggling to get the attention of the owner, properly. We're now just 2 players short of what most of us would be extremely happy with, no?

Add a striker and left back and we will start getting results. The only thing missing from our general play are goals and the ability of someone on the left to defend properly. Our squad depth is poor, but hopefully that will be addressed in the summer [our defence is to be looked at then and Jetro Willems is expected to join from PSV.]

Have you been watching Newcastle United? Are you sure? We have not performed well. Honestly I don't know why Steve and some fans keep saying this. Its the age old trap which leads to relegation "We performed well but our confidence is shot" "We performed well but we're just not finishing our chances" "We performed well but we were unlucky". Its a load of horseshit for me.

We play the odd nice bit of football in the middle of the park. The majority of our possession is through playing it around at the back, mainly because Krul has got crocked. No matter how much that lad was told, he just doesn't like playing out. I suspect he is just not very good with his feet. We don't create very much. Yes Mitrovic has missed the chances that have come his way, but we don't look that dangerous. I've been to nearly all the home games, its pretty painful. If any Newcastle fan can genuinely say they've sat there thinking "we're going to hump someone at some point" they need to go to specsavers. We have to stop kidding ourselves if we want to turn this around.

I don't mind if McClaren wants to be more possession based, its not a bad thing. I personally think KK and Robson had that balance right. Sometimes you need to be a bit more direct. Not in the height of the balls, but in how you attack. My main criticism apart from the comical transfer work, is having to watch us never really play with pace and purpose. I'd love defending against us, its so easy. We are so easy to soak up as we are slow in our build up, there is no rattle.

We have the players to be in our current situ regardless of the poorly thought out use of 70-75m. Its difficult to look anywhere but the coaching staff for the reasons. Perhaps they realised this with Townsend, I think he will bring us some much needed pace and directness. However we need to show some urgency in how we play if we want to see real change.

The cold hard reality is that this man has spent a small fortune (one of the highest net spends in Europe nevermind the PL), yet has us in the relegation zone looking toothless and unable to defend.

Sunderland AFC: Pickford, Matthews, Kirchhoff, Beadling, Yedlin, Agnew, Rodwell, Toivonen, Watmore, Fletcher, N'Doye

Newcastle United: Darlow; Barlaser, Taylor, Lascelles, Gibson; Roberts, Gouffran, Longstaff, Marveaux, Aarons; Riviere

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why are people insisting that Sunderland put out a strong side and Newcastle didn't? We didn't play one single first team player.

It's quite pleasing for us that we can look at that and know if we have suspensions/injuries, then we have players who can step in and do a job. I'd be very concerned about your squad depth, it looks like a few injuries and suspensions could leave you right up **** creek.

Looking at those names, I don't think there's any first choice players and not even many first choice replacements in there. Not sure of yours, but for us I'd say only Lascelles was first choice back-ups for their positions (plus Darlow while Krul is injured and Aarons while Thauvin's future is sorted out). Gouffran is one we use as a sub at the very end of games - but well behind Tiote, Colback and Anita for a first team place. I suspect both teams were playing 3rd and 4th choice players (or lower), along with youth players, to either give them extra game time or to show them off (or not) to invited scouts.

Out of our team, only Lascelles and maybe Darlow could be considered true first team players. Steve Taylor, Aarons and Marveaux are crocosk. The others are basically players that don't have a future at the club.

Not one starting player amongst it but some of the Mackem lads I loosely term as friends would like to see Watmore start more. A bit like Aarons for us. Otherwise its just all the dross. Our dross probably cost about 12m, not sure on the mackems.
