Like others on here, I'd rather keep Hoilett. He gets a lot of stick but I've generally thought he has offered something, despite his variable quality first touch and sporadic crosses into the box. Most notably, in possession, he often seems to scare the wits out of opposition defences. Being a positive sort of person, I don't think his recent improvement is solely down to his contractual position.

Nevertheless, it depends on the money i.e. the level of his wages and what we are offered as a transfer fee. He's certainly not been worth £45k a week, if that is an accurate figure. I really can't believe the £7 million transfer fee mentioned for someone on a short-term contract but, under more normal circumstances, he probably has looked like a £5 million footballer at times during this inflationary season.

So, bearing in mind his short contract, if we were offered in excess of £3 million and it did take £45k a week off our books, I'd be tempted by that.

If we are going to keep him, surely the maximum affordable and justifiable wage would be £20-30k per week?

Would happily give Hoilett away. We've got nothing to play for, he's expensive to keep, he's not very good even with the upturn in form and we might actually play someone there who will be here next year like YSY or Gladwin.

Can see what you mean i just don't credit Hoilett with the self awareness to play that sort of long game.

Very optimistic view. This is the same Canada squad that Petrasso has already been involved in. Actually it supports my view. If he wanted to bother before he could have done and it

Neither do I. It was sub-conscious that he left his motivation. He was guaranteed to earn that cash no matter how ****e he was. But when he became aware that was coming to an end and no other club would be daft enough to give him anything other than a hefty pay cut he suddenly started trying.

3 and half years is a hell of a long time for there to be a sudden upturn in form, effort and commitment. Even his biggest fan would have to admit that it hadn't come in to his consciousness.

He's become accustomed to big wages and probably expected when he signed 4 years ago would be a big pay rise and not a big pay cut. That would no doubt give the sort of boost to motivation that can help explain the turn around
