Angela Merkel!! She made an announcement inviting migrants to go to Germany and is now having to back track. It encouraged people to take risks to get to Europe. Some are true refugees, but one glance at so many healthy young males (who let's not forget have left their own families to fend for themselves) tell you that many are not. I took one look at a line of such young men and said that we will need to build more prisons not homes and that was before the shameful events at New Year. So Merkel is an idiot.
I agree about the young men. There seem to be loads of them. Why are they not back in their countries trying to help sort it out? Imagine if in WW2 all the young men fled Britain. Luckily for us they didn't.
The problem will be demographic if as you say it is mainly young males. There will be an imbalance between male and female populations. There may well be other social issues to resolve as well. However these guys have a two choices, either fight and die or get the hell out. I think I would rather live.
Fable being interviewed by Rolling Stone as we speak. I'm banished to a corner worrying about what she's saying, naturally!
The one downside of living on the island is the lack of awareness of other road users. Unlike the UK, if you are trying to turn right or left on to a more important road, nobody will let you out, and if you pull out, as the traffic has stopped, a driver will not bother slowing down to let you in to the slipstream of traffic. Another tendency is that drivers here do not slow down when approaching crossings until the last moment. On the motorway today that rings Palma, there are roadworks and I have seen numerous minor accidents because drivers are just not aware of everything that is going on around them ...there needs to be a big education program on how to drive with awareness here. A few years ago, one of my students was Miguel Garcia. One of his former clubs was Sporting Lisbon so he was a youngster when Jose Fonte was there as well. He spent a year or two in Southern Italy and there drivers go through on red lights if they see nobody coming.
Italian drivers are bad, but they seem to stop at crossings now...the first time I went to Italy in the 70s they seemed to think the crossings were just to line pedestrians up like a row of ducks. If you go to Sorrento you would be very lucky to see an undamaged car...I'm not talking dints here...you will see quite flash cars with the sides and lights stoved in.
When I stayed in Sorrento there was a road junction outside my hotel and in the evening the very lovely Mrs Godders and I would sit on the terrace with a glass of wine watching the Italian equivalent of stock car racing. The further south you go in Italy the crazier the driving becomes.
Was planning to visit the Holy Land (Southampton) tomorrow, but think the ferry crossing could be a little spicy.
I wouldn't worry if I were you. If the vote goes the "wrong way" I'm sure we'll have to vote again until we get it "right"
Colin Vearncombe "black" has today died after his car accident last week in Ireland..... R.I.P Colin http://news.sky.com/story/1630207/wonderful-life-singer-dies-after-car-accident
Austin Marinas and Hillman avengers I expect Beddy, usual reps cars of the early 70s if you didn't have a Cortina.
A zebra crossing in Serbia: The only safe way is if there are no cars in sight. Serbian drivers do not stop if there is someone on the crossing, they swerve at the last second and try to miss the back of your legs by the smallest possible margin. Being British I won't have this, I know I have the right of way, if there's a car within 50 metres I fix the driver in the eye, step out and stare him down. God knows how I'm still alive! (I have dived back to the pavement a few times) - also got arrested for crossing the road when there was a red no walking signal even though there wasn't a car in the street (an under cover street crossing cop) I pretended I was Dutch, no-one can speak Dutch. and he let me go.
Merkur double edged razor, bowl doesn't matter too much I have a Crabtree and Evelyn one but I bought it for £5 on eBay new. Get some decent shaving cream and a good brush, and be careful when you start razor really can really slice you so you have to get your angles right.
Thanks. Not sure what to do, but keep hearing that, if you take care, traditional razors are far better for your shave.
Ditto, very sad. A very underrated musician. Grew up on his music. Whilst not the most commercially popular songs which included piano and violins, they were simple songs with beautifully constructed lyrics. Paradise was a personal fav and I hope he finds himself there now.
