That thread was a perfect example of why we have the no politics/no religion rule.

I've noticed a definite increase in the numbers of homeless in Hull City centre in the last weeks, I honestly don't care where they came from it's just sad to see in the middle of winter. Must be some shelter closed down in Hull or a change in policy but I wouldn't wish homelessness on anybody having experienced it myself.

Well said. It amazes me that people use a thread like this to air their racist views. Totally not needed.

As long as we run our country in a way that allows the immigration of homeless into our society ,then I believe we have a moral obligation to do something about that. Repatriation is one solution, accommodation and integration is another. Sleeping on the streets should not be the answer for any human being in this country, we should not accept it, we should not allow it; it is uncivilized at our level of so-called sophisticated society.

The perfect solution would be to build a load of log cabins somewhere in Scotland. No electricity or water into the cabin, just a fresh water (and clean) well and food provided. A warm shelter, personal space, away from drugs and alcohol.

We'll see how many deserve help then, how many genuinely need it or are willing to work for their own comforts. The rest can just be thrown in the sea or used for medical research.

It is arrogant to proclaim such moral outrage as "we should not accept it, we should not allow it; it is uncivilized at our level of so-called sophisticated society" without consideration for those that choose a homeless lifestyle. There is a well known homeless man in West Hull suburbia called Lee Langman who chooses to live on the streets, would you take this freedom from him?

In fairness I think it was quite obvious that he was referring to those that don't/won't have the choice.

Who promised them? If they are not earning enough then surely the logical conclusion would be to return to their country of origin. We already have British people living on food banks, many on zero hour contracts, homelessness and over 1.8 million people unemployed. I sympathise with them for being homeless but if what you're saying is true, then it's a little naive of them to assume they could move to Britain and get a full-time job that offers a living wage and financial security.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side, it's where you water it.

Eastern Europeans aren't the only unfortunates that are being threatened with homelessness should this particular shelter close, it was just that they were mentioned in the RH news report. In saying that it should matter whether they are of Eastern European origin or not, we're all from Planet Earth.

But we're not a unified planet earth, that's not how the world works. Planet earth is split by boundaries as far as human governance is concerned.

The homeless always have options anyway. They could go and join the foreign legion for starters, or jump off cliffs, or God forbid - get a job.

That statement's irrelevant in a world with over 7 billion people and 196 countries with their own borders. Countries have a responsibility to support and protect their own people first and foremost. Like I said, the Eastern Europeans could go back to their countries of birth and their countries should support them, whether with job opportunities, welfare etc. etc. whilst we do the same for Brits. Did it say why the homeless shelter closed? Underfunding? Overcrowded?

I think we should just scrap benefits for people who aren't working, that'd save a lot of money. Or, here's a mental idea, make them work filling in potholes or cleaning graffiti or something, so at least they're doing something for the money they get. If they don't do it and sign in every day, they don't get their dole, simple. Got an injury that means you can't work? You can lick stamps or type stuff. But you aren't lounging about doing **** all while some of us do upwards of 60-70 hours a week and then moaning that foreigners are coming over and 'nicking our benefits'. Well, now you have to work like everybody else, or you don't get fed. How many companies would go for cost effective labour if the council were picking up the bill?

I think people who don't work for so long and have useless or no qualifications should just be executed or used for medicinal/cosmetics research.

No other species carries ****s who don't offer anything. We're wasting valuable resources on a lot of people.

That forced to work thing has been tried to an extent and was met with derision by sun and guardian readers. Apparently it's unfair that people work hard to earn 6, 7 or 8 figure salaries and council estate scum should be entitled to a good portion of their wealth for doing **** all.
