shivnarine chanderpaul of the windies has retired from test cricket. 86 runs short of lara's tally.

21 years of tests, 164 matches, 11,867 runs at 51.37, and 30 test centuries.

Bless him, he's done well - but his career strike rate of 43 doesn't lie. He's not been an entertainer like Lara or Gilchrist by any stretch of the imagination. More like the Miandad of the 21st century.

It's a shame for him that he's played in such a crappy era for West Indian cricket.

true. same with lara. i recall reading that lara had been on the losing side more than any other player in test history. maybe chanderpaul has that record now.

Bad light/rain had stopped play. Amla falls on 96. South Africa now forced to declare on 248 for 5. A lead of 381 runs.

England just started to bat. 382 runs to win.

England all out for 101, that's ****ing pathetic. They should have their match fee withdrawn. A whole bunch of spectators paid good money to see that last day and they've had the piss taken out of them by the England players. When will they learn that cricket is meant to be entertainment?

We've done enough to win, but it's the same old problems with the top order. Hales, Taylor, Compton haven't performed with the bat.

I'm glad we won the series, but bit disappointed England can't seem to get up for the last Test after victory is confirmed. We let the Aussies beat us in the 5th Test at the Oval in the Ashes, after completely outplaying them in the 3 of the Test matches & the same is happening again now.

Best Test sides, Aussies, Windies etc always wanted to win the series & then go on and whitewash their opponents. These lapses are costing us points & we won't move up the rankings.

First up, amazing to win the series, been a loooong time since we won a series away from home and against a good SA team too. Secondly, i'm glad we lost the last test, a draw or a win would have papered over some of the cracks that need addressing. Still lots of work to be done with the batting line up. Also Anderson's form was a bit of a worry, will be interesting to see how he does vs Sri Lanka in the spring. Finn and Wood being fit will be a definite boost to us.

England obviously had a safari to go on arranged so did not fancy wasting much time out on a cricket field today. Hearing James Anderson's interview last night on SSN it did not sound as though they could be bothered anymore with the game. Blah Blah we shall be positive Blah.

Dead rubbers should not be played anymore imo.
