I totally agree with this as well.

Jose needs to be given a deadline of 1 week to sign and, if not sell for best money possible. Then bring in Mebenque(?sp) as replacement.

Does anyone else see the statement saying that NUFC and Enrique have parted company by mutual agreement?

I know it's obviously not actually Jose, but I think Jose Enrique on here has his reasons for leaving spot on. Also, I think if we're pushing the top 6/7 at Crimbo he might wait to see where we finish rather than signing a pre-signing agreement

Ignoring your naughty bit I am glad you are understanding. I am nearing top of my career and I should not spend it at a place slipping down. If Newcastle are fighting for Europe football then I will probably stay.

True, but let's be honest, Carroll and Nolan have been very important players for us, either showing the potential (Carroll) or leadership on and off the field (Nolan) and they haven't been replaced as yet. I can't see a reason why as yet, can't be a money problem for the reasons I've mentioned.

On the field maybe, and a good signing he is, but we haven't replaced the leadership side of it.

Yes! I've been saying this since he left. If we don't get another leader in I think we'll under achieve. Possibly badly

Oh, I'm definitely not disagreeing with you, they were incredibly important players to the squad, although on the field I think Cabaye will turn out to be a more than capable replacement for Nolan, and if everyone else stays I think there will be enough leaders in the dressing room.
As for Carroll...truthfully, I don't think there's a CF in the world with his potential, and there was no chance of replacing him right now, because we either can't afford a player that could match his potential, or any player who has the potential of him would want to move to a club with guaranteed European football.

Leadership is about players stepping up to the challenge. Nolan lost his off field presence the second his head was turned and he made a money move.

I feel Taylor and Barton can fill his boots in the changing room, both passionate lads who understand the importance of pride.

On the pitch, Carroll and Nolan have been replaced suitably if statistics are anything to go by. Ba's record matches Carrolls and providing he settles in, Cabaye is a better playmaker than Nolan (though we now need anther striker to replace Nolan's goals).

In the long run Cabaye could be, he was captain at Lille wasn't he?

Totally agree with both points there - so it looks like us, and the players, have to put up with the fact we've lost a big player and we can't replace him - but surely spending at least a bit more of the money we got from him will help?

There are too many clubs in the world that have money to spend (and even more than us), AND are at the top of their respective leagues, that I really think it'll take more than 35m tucked away to really attract any marquis signings

I think he might become a decent leader, but nowhere near Nolan's level. Fabregas is/was captain of Arsenal, but I wouldn't call him a leader!

Absolutely, I think a little more has to be spent to fill a few gaps in the squad, but based on a few of the (failed) attempts at signing players like Gameiro (who I think would have been a huge success), I'm not writing off the club as being penny-pinchers just yet this summer. You have to be careful with those 8-15m striker transfers, because they can either be **** awesome, or just plain **** (e.g. if some idiotic club takes a chance on C-Cole)

Problem is we can't wait for ifs, we need a leader now and as much as I love Colo, he isn't a leader.

Said many times on here that one of the downsides to selling AC was the message its sends to other players. Now Enrique has confirmed that is so no suprise.

I can't say I enjoy reading stuff like this though, a man with real balls would say it to his emplyers face and Jose clearly hasn't done that so I've actually lost all respect for him. And the rider at the end that he loves the Geordies, howay man that's just plain pathetic. The Bull, don't think so, looks more like a ****in sheep to me.

I also wonder what the likes of Cabaye think? Maybe "****ing hell mate I've just won the French league, what the **** have you won in your career so far to be direspecting me in such a way, and by the way I'm a full French international, your mate Nobby wouldn't get near the French 2nd XI. And what's this about the Championship, weren't you one of the ****ers who took the club there!!"

Or maybe that's just me thinking that.

I agree with this too. Coloccini seems like a pro, but we need someone that's a pro, a leader and good. Coloccini fills two of those but it's the other one I feel is the most important
