You get what you are charged for rent...therefore if your landlord charges 20 quid a week your housing benefit will be 20 quid a week...if the landlord charges 150 quid a week (and that's the going rate in that area) then the HB will be 150 quid...and it goes to the landlord. ..most place have next to no council housing or housing association housing so a large percentage of this money goes to private landlords.

I live in Woolwich/plumstead se london...most private housing is bought by landlords to rent out...not only do they get the HB money they also end up pushing up house prices so that a 3 bedroom house round here costs over £300,000 so the only people who can afford to buy round here are....yep , landlords!

Eh? He said the claimant can't get the money direct, they can.

No, he meant that the money goes to the landlord, not to the tenant, so the large sums that are always quoted will depend on where they live.

Of course if the rent was lower there would be less HB paid, what was your point in saying the claimant couldn't get the money direct?

I meant that tge money went to the landlord for the rent...I know it don't need to go directly to the landlord but it does need to end up there otherwise the claimant can be charged with fraud (and usually is).
The post I was replying to originally mentioned HB and imo the amount spent on this is dictated by landlords so if it is expensive (as all governments state) then they should bring in laws to lower rents.

So RLC has basically just explained the same ****ing thing to you, yet you're still trying to point-score?

I never said Britain's 'only hope' was Jeremy Corbyn, but not surprised that you completely failed to understand a basic sentence.

    Wow. Just wow.
