Big Ern is saying the Italians aren't well liked isn't he? Not the Spanish.

Looked on here for news of Victor. I'm confused. Is he Dutch, Spanish or Italian? Oh sod it, if you can't beat them ....

Love Italy, and going back in a few weeks to Amalfi. Like Godders I wish I spoke the language and yeah, duolingo is the business (my granddaughter has used it to teach herself French and it's impressive). I used to go to the Netherlands a lot in the 60's and early 70's for research purposes (as my lawyer has told me to say) and always found that the Dutch were either laid back or wholly rigid with little in between - often within the same individual. A Dutch friend reckons it's something to do with religion, but it's lost on me.

Just a thought though, shouldn't this transfer to Koeman's corner? Any news on the Wanyama saga?

The best trait of every Dutch person I have met is their directness. They say what the mean. Zero flannel.

If Vic re-signs and doesn't resign, it will be a massive boost for the club and fans. Not to do with Vic's stature in the team, but just the fact one of our bigger named players is staying and not being tempted. I wouldn't care if that was because the likes of Arsenal or Spuds haven't shown interest, just be good to close a door.

Which just goes to show that there is good and bad in everybody. My general response to my cousin's view is that you can't generalise. Each person should be judged [if judged is the right word] on their own merits and de-merits.

I still worry about Vic's bell of an agent.

    Now then Sadio. Your turn.

Sadio does have another two and a half years left, so there's plenty of time before he can kick his toys out of the pram with any real Saido Berahino. :)

I always ask people not to judge me on my de-merits and to ignore the lack of merits.

A nice wedge usually stops a revolving door and a player leaving.

No we don't. Let me just direct your attention to item 46b on the financial statement... :)

We should have enough in the coffers to offer Wanyama a fair deal, so we should probably do that if we haven't already. But if he thinks he is worth more and one of the big clubs is willing to pay him that much, then sell him to those guys. Because I think we have decent cover so at worst it is a slight weakening in that spot. But between the wages saved and money from the sale, I think we could also purchase a DM of Wanyama-caliber if we choose.

Beyond squad concerns there seems to be some desire to issue a statement of intent of some kind. The thing with trying to issue statements is those statements are subject to reinterpretation after the fact.

Look at Ramirez and Osvaldo. At the time we bought them, everyone was like "We are sending a message to everyone there's a new big player in town." Fast forward a couple years and the message is "Yeah we paid too much and created lazy and/or jerky guys because they knew they had a big contract."

Or Clasie. Last summer: yeah, we got this great young player for cheap because of Koeman. Last month: we're screwed because we went bargain basement shopping for Clasie instead of spending real money. Now: ???

Fair or not, if a move works out you will always be a genius and your move will be interpreted in the best light according to whatever narrative is being spun at the time. If it doesn't work out it's the opposite.

Assuming we lose Wanyama, Mane, Pelle... Three players is a pretty normal turnover. It doesn't inherently imply selling club.
