we can only hope he does.... maybe he just needs a couple of goals from open play, and critics like me, will have to eat their words
End of the day it comes back to the same thing over and over. Players are the single most important commodity in any football club. Having the right mix is the job of the manager or director of football (however you are set up). Most people with a brain can work out that having 2 strikers aged 21/22 leading your line and being relied upon to score the goals to keep you in the division is foolhardy. Now I'm sure Steve and his team would say "yeah but we have Cisse and Riviere". Yes we do but one is lazy, has limited footballing ability and injury prone, the other isn't even a football player. I don't care how they want to dress it up, we wasted the significant transfer funds. I can't blame Ashley this time. He has allowed 70m to be spent assembling a football team. These morons have failed. Mitrovic could be decent in a few years. Thauvin could be decent in a few years. These were luxury buys that were not the answer. These are the type of buys established clubs with senior players already playing in the same position buy, so there is some kind of continuity. We haven't even got the players these guys are meant to take over from. We could have bought loads of players for the money we have spent. The likes of Naismith, Puncheon, Dyer, Austin (if you'd just bit the bullet earlier), Moses etc have all moved in the same time period. They all were much surer bets for us in those positions, than thinking "in 3 years time this guy will be great" - in 3 years time we will be in the championship. I've said for about 5 yrs, this football club is clueless and our transfer policy flawed. Many dispute this and put it down to this manager or that manager etc etc. Then we spend the season fighting relegation again. I would not blame McClaren but unfortunately he has been in the envious position of not only managing the club, but also sitting on the transfer board having a major say in players. So **** the niceties, he is a ****wit.
100% spot on. We're finished. If we aren't down this season, I will be utterly baffled. We are sure to the lose the next derby and that MUST be our death rattle. It's over.
Berahino is not the ****ing answer. We need an experienced striker. Sign Loic Remy, whether on loan or permanently. He will score goals and keep us up. Sign Berahino and we are down. It's not ****ing rocket science.
That Lee Charnley even today, with a week to go and the team in the relegation spot, is trying to get 'value for money' says as much about the bloke as you need to know. Whatever the outcome at the end of the season, if that moron still has a job (with Carr) then Ashley needs to be fcking certified.
Any other club chairman/ MD would be frantically trying to sign someone that was proven. For them, value for money would mean keeping the club in the PL with the resulting TV money that achieving that goal brings. Charnley? Value for money is wasting a fortune on some unproven kid who may come good. It's akin to giving a kid a book and saying to them, 'there you go, have that and learn to read yourself' without any one older/ experienced around to guide them or help them to develop the necessary skills. How Lee Charnley got the job of MD is anyone's guess. He is an idiot who spends most games flicking through his mobile phone.
