If you had players good/intelligent enough to get the ball to him in the area he would score many more goals. I believe Klopp hinted at this when he said "we have to find a way of getting the ball to him".
The same players seem to be getting the ball to Firmino who has scored 5 goals in 5 games playing as a False 9 (whilst bagging 3-4 assists).
When are people going to get it into their heads that quality players weren't climbing over each to come and play for us? I think you've all played too much fantasy football and lost touch with the real world.
I don't disagree that if we played a different brand of football or our players were better at route one clip it into the box style play he would be more effective.
Excuse me but when was a proper bit of wing play route one? Shift the ball and deliver.. don't take it run as close as you can to full back, hold it til his team mate comes and doubles up then try and beat both.... You'll note the goals scored by spurs (kane) liverpool (firmino no 2) and bournemouth all showed this moving of the ball quick but none were route on from deep. All people are saying is move the ball quicker. Every striker on the planet wants that.... Suarez included.
My take on all this after trying to be objective is Benteke is a very good player. He is suffering from one thing only CONFIDENCE. Of late, he is taking on players megging players and his link up play is improving. Sometimes as fans we forget how big our club is and the effect it has on some players who come from "smaller teams". Even Rodgers himself has admitted that he wasn't aware how big Liverpool is. At Villa Benteke could go with 10 hrs not scoring and the fans would not get on his back. It's funny how we sing YNWA and never even take those words seriously. Tekkers is walking through a storm and no one is walking with him. At Liverpool 3 games no goals and fans are already moaning. The team as a whole has not been playing well but Benteke has taken the bulk of the criticism which is unfair as we have been very porous at the back and midfield player have really gone missing in many games. If we were keeping clean sheets and creating numerous chances the criticism would be valid. He will get his groove back and many will wonder why they called him a donkey. At his worst he is still our top scorer so I cannot wait for his confidence to come back. Have faith lads
People (including myself) were moaning even when he was scoring because we look beyond the headline and dissect the overall performance. And the defence and midfield have also been scrutinised. But overall, the attack has been better without him in terms of goals scored, and overall style of play. That's not to say it's perfect - there's a lot of work required.
He's one dimensional. He's great at what he does, when he has confidence but he just doesn't suit how we play. I really want him to come good and prove me wrong but at the moment I just don't see anything to suggest that he will.
Benteke is a donkey and expensive one at that, but this is it: buy him for the amount we paid and the expection is too high. This is why we have to stop paying ridiculous amounts of money for players. Carroll was another one. Can't help thinking if we'd paid something like £25 million we would have got more out of him. He's better than we think he is but we're not seeing it.
I wouldn't flog him yet. I would give him to January next yeAr. Pre season under klopp and see how he is then.
