To be fair, you're right Gez - the price is nothing to do with Benteke. It's not his fault that the club deemed it good business to spend £32.5m on a £15m player.

All Benteke can do is perform to the best of his ability for the club. But people seem to think he is playing without confidence or we're not supplying him. This is how he played for villa!! This isn't low confidence or poor form - this is his normal form.

But don't worry lads - he will be off in the summer and we'll sign real quality in the summer, similar to Firmino as he's now finally showing.

The true cost of something is what you have to forfeit in exchange.

In our case we forfeit a top 4 type striker for a "just above relegation battle" striker. Which would probably be enough if Sturridge was fit and useable ahead of him.

I have nothing against Benteke. I don't dislike him. I don't think he's terrible. I think he tries hard to earn his pay, he's just not mobile enough for us.

As I said, he's ok as a backup or plan B. Everyone needs a backup or plan B. It's just a shame he came at the expense of a "top 4" quality striker.

We're what 6 or 7 points off top 4? A top quality striker could easily have made up for that.

If Sturridge were fit we'd be top 4 this season. Yeah we've got holes but so does everyone.

Its not just that a top striker would create more and score more it would change the very philosophy of teams that attack us.

Most of the points we have dropped this year have been against teams that defend well. Sit back but press when we enter their half. Then they get a goal due to Crappy defending by us on a corner.

Teams can do that, sit back tight and defend, for one main reason: we don't have an attacking threat and as long as they don't leave gaps at the back or stretch their players we won't score.

These are teams and a tactic that Sturridge or another quality creative striker would crucify.

A quality striker would make the world of difference.

  5. We're talking about football, not buying a ****ing car <doh>

Money only matters when we're talking about signing someone. Once signed, the amount means ****.

But you'd still have Rodgers and Klopp would've in charge at chelsea or Utd. .......

We might have been close but we would be bout of both cups played I reckon.

We can say what we like now. ..... but reality check.... what striker out there was joining brendans mighty midget army... we were lucky to snag benteke after last year.

Again name the mythical striker I say... who was this guy coming to us to play for Rodgers after last year with lallana to play with...

We got firmino simply cos he was at a small club and we paid way over the odds while nobody else in England wanted him.

Teixeira move might end up replicating this if Chelsea don't step in but we have a huge advantage in having Klopp to say hey I'm turning this **** round.

Not if the amount you sign them for has ramifications like not being able to invest in other areas. What if we'd have got Benteke for 20m and spent 12m on a decent CB and the CB had helped us keep more clean sheets while Benteke still got same amount of goals?

Doesn't change anything. He's still not good enough to be a regular starter but good enough to be on bench.

I'm merely explaining why he's a daily topic of conversation. Aspas never got a daily debate. N'Gog didn't get a daily debate.

The reason people keep talking about Benteke is because he was a marquee signing and as such more expectation was put on his shoulders. It brought the limelight to him. Because we got Benteke we didn't get a good striker.
