My first car was a Hillman Imp - if it rained heavy I used to park up and shelter in shop doorways, the rain came in through the quarter lights, rear window seal and ''somewhere'' via a run off channel, it would fill the passenger side footwell in about ten minutes ..... puddle cleared by driving a 6'' nail through the floorpan.

You should see what the young whipper snappers do with metro's these days.

****ing hell they're fast. Nowt more than a glorified baked bean can on wheels. Stick a powerful engine in one and the result is scary.

Fortunately, most of them end up crashed. Fatally.

I remember sitting in one of those on Arthur Reid's pitch on Bev Road, near to Redifusion, donkeys years ago, it felt fantastic, fitted me like a glove, shame that they turned out to be just another Triumph rotbox.

My old man had a Triumph Dolomite and it was a ****ing embarrassment.

It was canary yellow and I hated it.

He loved it though, the barmy old sod.

Remember the old man had a Vauxhall Victor. Bench seat in the front, he used to deliberately turn corners sharply just so i'd get to slide across the seat and end up in the footwell!! <laugh> No need for seatbelts in them days.
Then he had a Hillman Hunter MAT 766F, followed by a Hillman Avenger CAT 319K. ****ed if i know what the reg on my car is now but cant forget them.

Actually I think it might have been more of a mustard yellow than a canary yellow.

    It was still ****e though.
