In the mid- to late-2000s, Gore repeatedly predicted that an ice-free Arctic Ocean was coming soon. But as usual, his fortune-telling was wrong. By 2014, Arctic ice had grown thicker and covered a greater area than it did when he made his prediction.

Did you factor into this supposed 'logic' the fact that building standards and materials have improved in the last 30 years? Therefore the modern properties are less sustainable to extreme weather damage than the older ones, thus the comparison over time is an apples and pears nonsense?

The simple fact is that the GDP graph was disingenuous due to the selective time frame and the complete ignoring of other relevant factors. It proved nothing and disproved nothing, as it was merely a summation that the author created in order to add credence to his false narrative.
