The failure of anyone else to go in for Austin was discussed on Soccer Saturday. Even before the match it was agreed that Austin was a snip....a proven goal scorer for 4 million (less than 4 said Matty :)). Saints were congratulated for putting their toe in the water and asking about his availability.

My brother-in-law is a Utd season ticket holder and they are not at all impressed by Morgan. It is staggering that LVG hasn't based the team around him as I have always felt that Schneiderlin was a genuine, World Class player. I think that whoever comes in to manage Utd next, the players who have under-performed this season will be transformed in 2016 / 17.

Funny how beating Man Utd used to actually mean something. Once it was a major achievement as Ferguson's teams represented the very pinnacle of English football - now it feels like simply going through an ordeal rather like beating Stoke.

I have to agree here. United were 5th and above us. For the money they've spent and their recent history the team is rightly derided, but they're still a solid outfit and very difficult to beat

Completely, the difference between the then newly signed Martial's display at SMS, (okay Martial was aided and abetted on occasion that day) and apparently the same player's display this afternoon, displays the guy's special talent for strangling talent. They should definitely keep him! :)

I know a fair number of Utd supporters who complain about the lack of playing time Morgan is given because they rate him so highly... so it comes down to opinion. Statistically when he is playing they are much more successful.

Tom, I am happy to admit being in the 'not so keen camp' - very pleased to be proven wrong!

Amazing from Charlie's point of view, a few weeks back he was returning to training in the Championship....now he scores winning goal at OT.

Yeah...couple weeks ago we were battling with the lower-table strugglers like Chelsea, and now we have the European placeholders like West Ham in our sights.

The Premier League is deeply weird.

Romeu played well when he came on I thought - there were genuinely so many positives from today

I don't think some of you guys are giving Charlie enough credit for making the space for his header.
I'm quite sure, (need to see a replay) that he was being marked but as he ran across the box, he "knew" or gambled where the ball was going to come down and stopped his run, whilst another Saints player and two United players ran under the ball.
It was him stopping his run that made it an unmarked header.
This is something that natural goal scorers can do. They know that space can be gained by standing still and allowing their marker to drift away. Bergkamp was a master of this, at Arsenal.
But I await the highlights to see if I got this right.

I don't think anyone played poorly. A few are knocking Mane, but he pressed excellently and set the whole tone for the match. Forster was a wall of solid. Targett and Cedric were great going forwards and back. VvD, Fonte and Bertrand were always in control. Clasie was inspirational first half. By next year, he'll be playing whole matches! Wanyama dominated physically - and Fellaini could have received a red for one of his "accidental" elbows on the big man. Long is my first pick at the moment - so much pace and energy.

Oh... Tadic... autocorrect just changed his name to taxicab. Might be about right. He really lacks energy. A blood problem, perhaps? Something wrong there.

All three subs were okay, too, eh? :)
