He wasn't helped by his gearing today. The car topped out at 298 Kilometres an hour. That's useless for overtaking.
Adrian Newey has to look at his design philosophy. He has to make the car better at following other cars. he has a history of making cars that do not perform well in turbulent air.
I'd be surprised if RB weren't back on top next week. Given Vettel's results so far this year, I think he's earned an off race. They all have them. As for his issues with overtaking. It's not his strongest asset in my opinion, I wonder if he over thinks it sometimes? It's just not as instinctive as the likes of Alonso or Hamilton. Where Vettel does excel though is making a fast car go super fast. Give every driver that same RB this year, let them all do one timed lap and Vettel would quite easily dominate them all in my opinion.
Given everyone saying Vettel is overrated, i suppose i'm about to be insulted for loudly proclaiming; KAMUI KOBAYASHI IS THE BEST F1 DRIVER Give me your best shot.
He designs them to win, not be stuck in traffic. A bold approach, but given some of the cars that he has designed (and a few howlers, admittedly), It's hard to knock him for that philosophy.
Yep, it's not often they have to overtake. Designing a car to overtake is practising bad habits if your aim is to win. Fair enough if you're Force India or someone similar, expecting to be in the thick of the midfield.
Er, right. Are you implying that Vettel can overtake but he's just got a crap car?!!! It looks like that to me and I'm incredulous! As for Button and Petrov, well, Petrov doesn't have a straight line advantage in the Renault as far as I'm aware but he is quite capable of frustrating the efforts of the 'greats' to get past: Schumacher, Hamilton, Alonso have all found themselves stuck behind him.
True. I meant that given Alonso and Vettel 1 and 2 on the grid, I would expect Alonso to win more often than not, since he's a better racer than Vettel.
When he gets a decent drive we'll see, he's a poor qualifier but makes up for it with his race performances, however in theory, I agree, he's my favourite as I see him as one of the best wheel-wheelers and he has a head on his shoulders. Also feel RBR may have set-up for a wet-race with their gearing, and as Smithy pointed out, the Renault engine doesn't have the best top end anyway.
Kamui Kobayashi is one of those drivers, who you know that they have the ability to be a champion, but won't ever get a top drive, or will get it too late on in his career. He doesn't bring sponsorship or backing, he has to earn drives, which means the big teams will never sign him. And he's japanese, which ties him in to people such as yamamoto. When you think of japanese f1 drivers, people spinning into gravel traps, or being hit by one of the medical cars spring to mind.
What are you suggesting Basil? That Red Bull are deliberately setting Vettel's car to fail to challenge for the podium?!
I can't see RBR sabotaging Vettel's car. Nobody would be stupid enough to sabotage their lead driver.
Agree wholeheartedly. They want to win the WDC & WCC so to take steps to counter that aim would be preposterous wouldn't it!
I've just got one of those suspicious minds. If Vettel had the fastest car, number one status, and ran away with the title it would be bad for business. This is a fact proven by viewing figures during Schumacher's pomp. I will make a prediction. Vettel will not dominate the rest of the season, and the end of the season might well be quite close between Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton. I am not suggesting that Vettel's car is being sabotaged. That's silly. All I am saying is that Bernie has his eye on the bottom line. Of course you may believe what Horner said, that Vettel had a bit of trouble finding a set up. Aw diddums. I certainly wouldn't try to dissuade you from that view. I just feel that there will be plenty more of these sorts of excuses as to why Vettel won't be whipping everyone for the rest of the season. Sport is all about money these days. Anything that impacts on revenues will be rectified. I am sure that the people that own F1 have noticed the grumblings of the couch potatoes and useless eaters that make up the F1 fans, and have decided to make the title race a bit more exciting in order to keep the rats on board the ship. Prove me wrong.
you mean like if one of the Mclaren drivers had won the title in 2007 and Ferrari gone to the courts for a ruling would've been bad, so Alonso went flying off and Hamilton a very mysterious self repairing Electrical fault, wiping ALL telemetary, something that hasn't happened to anyone before or since, that sort of suspiciious mind?
I have a strong memory of Vettel overtaking the Mclaren of Hamilton in a Torro Rosso and nearly depriving him of his championship, for those that say he has no racecraft and can't overtake.
That's one of my favourites lol. When he conked out I thought to myself, "Well that's that then", but to see Hamilton suddenly get going again, just too far behind to get the points he required from the race to win the title I felt sure that something fishy was going on. McLaren, once they had been booted out of the constructor's title race, would never be allowed to win a the drivers' title. This also explains why Hamilton was kept out so long on shredded tyres in China. I don't think F1 is quite as bad as pro wrestling, but i do believe that there is a fair amount of interference that keeps the pot boiling nicely to keep people from switching off.
