Is Pep all that? He inherited a Barcelona side that had won the Champions league in 2006 so he had a great squad he didn't have to rebuild and just plugged in Messi to the midfield and Bayern Munich had just won the Champs league the year before. So he had two great squads to work with. Do you think he could go to a top seven side like say, Crystal Palace and win the league?

TBF he inherited Rikjards team on the wane, shipped out some like Ronaldinhio and Deco, and increased the influence of Xavi and Inestia and improved them. Credit where it's due. Graham Hunters book about his time at Barca is a good read. He is the real deal, why he's so coveted.

But no, he couldn't win the league with Palace. God himself couldn't

Pep plays a terribly boring style though. He got away with it at Barcelona because of a few players in their prime. He was widely criticised in Germany for making Bayern play like the Spanish national team and has never really been loved there because of it. I expect him to go to city and spend a crap load and win the league with them.

He won't need to spend a crap load to win the league with City's squad. His job will be to win the CL for them. Tough ask though!

There was nothing boring about his Barca in their pomp. I'll remember the absolute schooling they gave Utd in the 2011 final for years :)

  8. Agree. Some found their ball retention and domination boring but they weren't a boring team to watch imo

Always going to be questions for managers that haven't worked their way up.

It's why was hoping Mourinho wouldn't get sacked. Was first time in his career his team weren't the best in the league, first real time in his managerial career team were in sure form and would have been fascinating to see how and if he could get them out of that slump.
What is it they say, learn more from defeat than victory, well same is true in terms of managers. Learn just how good they are when going through a bad spell.

Does it mean Pep etc should be going to mid table teams to prove himself? No...he's event right to manage best in the world but would he be classed alongside some of the best ever managers who haven't walked into a team that are already the best in the league? Probably not because we'll always be having this discussion.

I see Uniturd are using the long, diagonal pass up to Fellaini.

not even Pulis uses tactics like that anymore
