Challenge Cup Quarter Final Hull 22-38 Leeds KC Stadium attendance 9,496. ---------------------------------------------- Hull City v Liverpool pre-season friendly Hull 3-0 Liverpool KC Stadium attendance 20,924. I think that's put that one to bed.
I agree and and I am really tired of this argument as it happens. Personally, I love both sports and couldn't care less whether we are seen as a "football city" or a "rugby city". As far as I am concerned there are points that could be used to claim either title. I suppose it is understandable if people find the local media to be biased towards rugby, but the fact is whatever the attendances are, both FC and Rovers have a combined large fanbase across the city so lets not pretend no one in the city is not interested in Rugby League anymore because it is clearly not the case.
This thread is a sarcastic dig at those that refer to us as a rugby city, along with a dig at our local media, who are a disgrace when it comes to their rugby bias. I've nothing against our rugby teams, I have no interest personally, but I still hope both teams do well.
I'm by no means an RL fan, but I like that we have two teams and that Hull is one of the best cities at it, anything pro-Hull is good in my book. The fact remains that City are more popular than the other two combined though, so the argument really should be put to bed, but it never will.
It is, and I admit that City are getting higher attendances than both clubs combined, however the point is there are two major rugby league clubs in the city, and in comparison their individual attendances are ****, however combined they do stand up to City. You would expect better from a cup quarter final, howver I think it is just a reflection on how the season has been so far for both rugby teams. Plus that attendance figure is low even by FC's standards who usually pull in around 12000 for a Super League game. Combined with the 8-9000 Rovers pull in, then it is a similar figure to City's average Championship attendance. I'm sure someone will be willing to argue against me about this which is fine, all I really wanted to say is that I don't care what sport is seen as being the main sport in Hull.
My long winded post took me so long to type up that i many people posted before I got it up, so I do apologise if it looks like I've tried to continue the argument XD
Obviously City will always get bigger crowds than FC. But if I was to argue the toss... First home pre season game for city against a top, well supported opposition. Fans excited and keen to see the new players. Local Liverpool fans in the home end that you wouldn't get against say, Bolton. If the match was live on the BBC maybe less would have turned up or travelled from Liverpool. Middle of a long rugby league season, so not the same buzz factor. Just played the same opposition at their place the week before so maybe not everyone could afford it. Also, despite what you'd think from here, quite a number of people do support/follow both teams. If money means picking one of the two games then the occasions would favour going to see city. Match was live on the BBC. Don't disagree with your point, but theres room for more than one sport in the world. People just need to learn the place of that sport. Still always a good subject to stir up a bit of banter. I salute you sir
City have had their fair share of crap attendances over the years. Also let's not forget we've all been in the doldrums for decades and both sports and all clubs- City/Rovers/Black & Whites- have had their fair share of problems on and off the field.
When comparing attendances, it's worth noting that there's a loading towards RL as they play less games and they are on the whole cheaper (especially for kids), so if averages were weighted accordingly RL is even further below. Adding KR and FC together is also a dangerous ploy for RL people, as that then allows ALL other football fans into the calculation. Doing that shows why RL is lumped with ping pong for Sky ratings. Mind you, you'd never know this from the ****e that comes out of our "local" media.
I have often said : Hull is a rugby town but a football city.... If eeffcc and revers went out of bizz I 'd larf myself hoarse.
