Bensons move to Notts County has fallen through over personal terms...I for 1 am pleased about that hopefully he can be an integral part of our squad strength in dewpth is what we need.
He is, I think that was the stumbling block I presume County would only offer him a year .He`s nearly 32 so cant see anyone giving him more than a year .As I read somewhere else he can stay with us play a part in our promotion season then go back to the Daggers for free and he dont need to uproot his family.
Wasn't too sure how I felt about the prospect of Benno leaving (other than the worry of only having 2 senior strikers). But upon seeing that the deal has apparently fallen through, I felt a strong sense of relief. Glad he's staying, but I still feel we need another striker. I'm hoping Jason Euell's cameo appearance wasn't just for fitness purposes.
I'm relieved, as I thought from the title benno had actually collapsed! Also happy he is staying. Should fight for his place, and imagine he will be a bit excited with green, Stephens and Alonso pulling the strings in midfield.
Same here. I was worried for the fella. Combining with Green should see him score more goals than last season. Also, did he get 3 red cards last season? Hopefully he'll cut back on that too.
Thought it was only 2? Saying that, his first red card for us last year was his first ever red card - quite impressive considering he's 31.
In my head, there was one fairly early, then two close together later in the season. Could be my memory playing tricks on me. A fine record, but he was playing proper pub football for a fair while before he joined the Daggers. Dailly had a good record before last season too, but I'd say the same about him
Just checked the football league site and it says he had 2 yellows and 2 reds. Sorry for that, making myself sound like a know-it-all, just trying to find something interesting to do on a typically dull Sunday evening I'd say its even harder to avoid red cards in pub football, as there's so little riding on each match, whats to stop you from going in a bit heavy-footed or arguing with the ref/players. Means he gets next Sunday off at least I thought Dailly's discipline problems last season were more due to him going a bit umm, senile, for want of a better word. So many times he failed to spot through balls/players running beside him, and simply couldn't keep up with opposition defenders. With that being said, the red card he received in the home-game for an elbow was just poor refereeing (as it was shown to be a clash of heads on camera). The one later in the season (Oldham[?] away) was a bit silly on his part, but to be fair he had just been studded in the face. His first red of the season was understandable though, bad move by someone with as much experience as his to go lunging two-footed, head-on into a tackle when he'd already been booked.
I've tried to remove the whole experience of MK Dons away from my memory, but in my head Benno was sent off for two yellows in that. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, no problem. No worries on the stats - I went on to Wiki to find that Darius Henderson has played at L1 or lower twice. Yeah, but Benson would've been miles above the level of everyone else in the league, and looking to get back up to the Conference or higher. He probably would've had the protection of the referees, and didn't have the need to go lunging in left right and centre. Aye fair call on Dailly, and he was lucky enough not to have been sent off earlier against Orient.
My apologies if I was wrong then IA Yes I remember that actually, everyone was glad the ref hadn't sent him off earlier then he went and did that. I was disappointed generally with Dailly last season, whilst the previous season he was solid and consistent (though nothing spectacular), last season he really led by a poor example, and was perhaps our most inconsistent performer (when he wasn't suspended that is).
Bottom line... glad he's staying... very glad he didn't actually collapse... but we still need another striker. And I'm worried that the signings have dried up... still lacking at RB and CF cover
CF cover can be filled with Benson staying and signing Euell Would definitely take BWP, Hayes, Benson, Euell and Wagstaff as a strikeforce to begin the season with. Euell would be a great signing regardless of age
I too would be very happy with Euell signing (think we all would), but I dont feel we should get our hopes up too much. Powell has said that he's only training with us so he can stay fit etc. I feel we're all anticipating him signing, and are going to be hugely disappointed if he doesn't, so perhaps best that we all assume he won't, that way things can only get better.
perhaps other clubs are thinking that cos Euell is training with us that inevitably an offer will come in for him from us same thing happened with Fortune last season training with us which led to a contract offer
Hmm good point Martinho Although I feel Fortune was lucky to get a contract from Charlton, whereas Charlton will be lucky to sign Euell.
