I am absolutely not missing the point indeed, your points are exactly the same as mine. What I am saying is that we appear to be missing out the bits where we ask the club for their valuation and talk round it. We are also absolutely not speculating because if we want the product, we pay the price hoping that the player matures and improves with us and is worth a lot more. That is what I call speculation, not speculation on the price...
from #17 thread/reply :- Premiershiporbust IV said: ↑ If you really want the player, the only way to stop a bidding war is pay the asking price (or near to it) and assuming that the player is happy to come, this takes out the competition. from another thread:- I cannot envisage SL having this mind set in the slightest, a man who fostered PMA and VFM back when I casually had an acquaintance with him back in the early 80's ! Speculate to accumulate .. missing the point of above the inference has always been that SL is the negativity behind the actions my statement has nothing to do with us paying anything or negotiating high or low or picking players whatever .. my statement is simply SL 's mindset is geared to that in red
need to carry on writing my book on the geology of Assynt since the last interglacial period and the effects of the modern day hydrology on the existing landscape apologies if I don't reply any more tonight jgf2
I got your points the first time but the point that plays in this discussion which has been aired MANY TIMES (and which you appear to have forgotten) is that SL has publicly stated, on many occasions, that he has never said no to anything put in front of him. Now from that, we have to speculate that what is being put in front of him is someone else's idea of a good deal, NOT HIS. The trouble is, none of the clubs we are dealing with agree.
I think Steve Cotterills thinking was right on one thing, most of the deals will be made in the last few days when time is running out, especially if they need the money, could prove interesting.
that's the point it is not forgotten, far from, in fact your own contradiction to the comments gives the answer ... his mindset is PMA VFM and STA . HE HAS NEVER SAID NO ..... "Now from that, we have to speculate that what is being put in front of him is someone else's idea of a good deal, NOT HIS". So he does say NO !
We seem to have a few irons in or around the fire we need a defender, leftback? midfielder? forward? so pick 2 of each go in with a bid of £1m for the Colchester middy Gilbey and offer 600k for Briggs OR AN ON THE TABLE OF £1.6m for both! plus add ons... go back to GILLS AND SLAP A BID OF £2M ON THE TABLE ... As for a forward who is left???? Macheda? for £500k right place and he could turn out like Wilbs did HOT Colchester have a big squad they need to downsize and are likely losing money every week with low gates ... a one off offer and see the result. gills know Dack wants out .. HIS VEILED COMMENTS OF I DONT THINK gives the game away £2m with add ons makes sense! Its no good pussy footing around ..
