Ashton Gate has been the home of Bristol City since 1904. So unless these people were living there before then they cant be surprised by the parking issues. I'm guessing the Stadium was there before a vast majority of these people complaining about the parking.
I am afraid you are incorrect. "Road Tax" allows you to use the Highway not stop and park on it. In Bristol such matters are policed by the Council. In Clifton's RPZ permits are valid Mon-Sat whereas in BS3 it is Mon -Fri, So you are correct that both local residents and supporters have "an equal privilege" to park. Obviously local residents are unhappy that BS8 and BS3 are being treated differently. The logical conclusion is that the Council have failed to address the issue of car parking for the new Stadium and are depositing the problem on local residents. I am simply reporting an issue which is festering and needs addressing.
It's not worth the energy of an argument or debate, do they have the same problems up by the minimal, I never seem to hear about any problems up there.

The Club and the cumminity have to get on and live side by side but the council and the police don't help the situation, the planners don't help approving planning applications for apartments everywhere without any parking or forward thinking, it's not just on match days it's bad during the week as well
My original comment was made "tongue-in-cheek" and it certainly is difficult at the best of times especially when many properties in the area are owned by people who do not live there. They simply rent them, so there may be 4 or more individuals, each with a car, to one house. As has been said already, the council have effectively ignored the problem and put it in the "too hard to handle" bin which means that we all have to get on with it the best we can!!
What of course people are not considering is that the longstanding problem has effectively doubled with the Rugby teams arrival and will get worse when large gigs take place to pay for the stadium. All I am saying is that while there has been a historical problem, it is a ticking time bomb which will eventually explode. Local residents (of which I am not one) have had a double wammy with RPZ and new stadium.
I don't live too far from enemy territory and my mate lives nearby and they have exactly the same problem with the parking in the vicinity. Not only that but the traffic on Gloucester Road and sideroads is diabolical before and after the game...
I am afraid it is you who is wrong.. as it is illegal to park a vehicle on a highway without current road tax and you are required to have it to do so (subject to parking restrictions) .. if you do not have it and park a vehicle on a highway there are penalties for doing so.-- hence road tax is required to park legally.!!
Wrong again.. Bristol rugby attract below half the attendance that City do and play approx half the homes games per season. so it has not 'effectively anywhere near doubled'.. What has doubled is the amount of NIMBY whiners who all have their 'rights' and love nothing more than setting up focus groups and general moaning about nothing. Its why nothing ever gets built in this City..
Two separate things I am afraid. If you research it you will find that “in common law, drivers have the right to pass and re-pass along the road. There is no legal right to park on a road, verge or footway“. So road tax allows you to use the Highway only. If however a Council introduces parking areas as it is allowed to do then you need road tax to use that facility but there again you not would be on the road without it in the first place
Agreed but you would accept it has increased and more so this year with larger BCFC attendances. All this however is irrelevant as there is a perception of an increase and those affected are objecting. What they can do about it remains to be seen. Bristol Council undoubtedly see all forms of parking as a cash cow and surely they can come up with a solution Greville Smythe Park for example.
I don't need to research it.. if you have a car parked outside your house on a highway without tax it will be clamped and towed away, very simple to understand. how it got there is irrelevant... so hence, you have to have it to park a vehicle in a road (even if its dropped there by helicopter!)
You miss the point you may need to road tax to park a car but you have absolutely no legal right to park a car anywhere unless someone gives you that right. So if you park a car outside your house you can legally be booked for obstruction. These are only technical points but it gets back to the fact that neither the local residents or supporters have any rights here. Therefore a dog eat dog situations exists and it is for the Council to sort out if it is so inclined. All I am reporting is that the locals have an issue I am not taking sides
Well I guess I am not a normal person but at least I know I am right. Road Tax is a general tax and not spent on roads. All it does is allow you to use the road. And that is my final word on the subject
