Just showed my lass the pics and now she wants one of these. What have I done!! <laugh>

How do you go about getting one of these?

    How much are they?

And most importantly... If it does end up in a fight with my German Shepherd, who is likely to win? (Remember how much I love my dog)

Well the same applies with any kind of cat. And that's what is your dog like with kittens? Kittens are useless defenseless idiots. Your dog could kill it dead in a flash. If it's ok with kittens than they should live in harmony. The cat will be boss. Your dog will learn it's place and that will be don't **** with the cat. But that will develop through pshychological dominance and the odd combo rather than scrapping. Even those big ****ers would do a German Shepherd on speed over 10-15m and it's all a cat needs to get safe though the paw speed should be enough to deter your dog. But as tobes said, good lazy hassle free cat. Those Savannah's have mischief written all over them <laugh>

Does your lass know Maine Coons come in any colour? Tell her to check out the Blue and Blue smokes. The gingers are handsome too.

You get one the same way you get a pedigree dog, look for a breeder and do your research to make sure you're not going to get a poorly mistreated kitten and see the parents. Loads of dodgy breeders at the moment for dogs and cats. They're bastards.

My dog is naturally submissive anyways, so that wouldn't be a problem. Aye like I said about them Savannahs, always on the go and up to no good, proper little twats.

If it ever hurt my dog though, it's going on the missing list <grr>

You'll be sound with a Maine Coon, all the fat **** will do is sleep and get cuddled to death by your lass. <laugh>

Ha. I typed in ugly cats and dogs, the state of some of them.

How far you from the coast?

New Foundlands love the water, maybe rather large for your liking though as they are massive. Lovely though.

Aw shucks, that's what we had. Not far off being a little lion. Great with kids....but would go straight for the cat, irrespective of its size. It doesn't matter when you're 70+ kg of pure heed and muscle....

you get Lynx in the forest parks near us. ain't seen one yet....

there used to be a bloke in prague who had a wild cat as a pet, he took round our local park. looked like a lynx but not quite as big so was maybe one of these F2 jobs. i was thankful that on both ocassions he was sat down with it on a leash, and my two didn't spot it. there could have been hell on.

There's loads of breeders of them in the UK mate, they cost anywhere between £250 and £550 dependant on the breeder you choose

They're not at all aggressive, in fact they're quite placid cats, they'd run from the dog

Because of their size it's unwise to allow them to roam, they're best kept either in the house or some form of outdoor run, and then taken out on a lead.

    Been very interesting this.
Reading Brian's posts & knowing what Jerry's like for cats I'm thinking about getting one.
    A rescue one maybe.

Me and the Mrs went to the local pet shop who had a litter of 5/6 kittens who had been abandoned by their mother - were pretty much feral.

Cost us £80.00 which was a donation to the local charity.

I'd prefer an adult cat that I dont have to litter train.
There's loads of feral cats in Harperly woods near were I live.
    Can be viscous bastards like.
