Agree with Mitrosexual, price is nothing to me. I'm not the one pissing it away, so it's only value for a footy fan is for comparative sake. 32 mill or 8p, don't care. We need a striker with pace who can finish. We have a tricky type in Perez, a donkey type in Mitrovic, and now we need an actual striker type. Is Berahino good enough? I have doubts about whether he will ever become a top player, but for our needs he would suffice. Plus in terms of motivation, unless he does a Vardy, he ain't going to the Euros, so he has to smash it! I think he would disappoint fans, in truth, because he is overrated, but he will score a few goals and could be a decent addition. Objectively 22 million or whatever is historically steep for his standard, but factoring in inflations and distortions of this particular market and our situation, and I think it would represent fair value in the January window. We'd be stronger with him.
Your predictive text wasn't working correctly, so I've put in what you obviously meant to write. Otherwise spot on. How much it costs is of zero consequence and I reckon they should pass a law whereby all transfer fees become private & confidential under NDA's, and are subsequently terminally classed as "undisclosed". He is what we need, he's better than what we have (by default, we actually have nobody doing this job) and strengthens the squad.
This all day. I want him. Couldn't give a toss how much. But then it does matter to a degree because the books have to be balanced somehow. I can see sissoko going to Napoli for 22 million with Townsend relaplacing him for 14 million and tiote going for about 7 million and or gouf for about 3 million. There's the 18 million for beta.
To me £20 million seems quite a lot of money to pay for a player that has really only had 1 good season and who also seems is quite capable of throwing his toys out of the pram if he does not get his way. Yes, we need good players, but we also need good characters as well, grown-up footballers who understand that you dont always get what you want, and when that happens you dont throw a strop and refuse to play. Is their nobody in the championship we can go for, who is as hungry as hell and wants to show the world what he can do? Suggestions anyone??
That's the problem we face though - I don't think there is anyone who would be sure to come in and deliver what we need. That leaves us having to pay over the odds (which I agree it is) for someone with Premier experience or taking a chance on someone from another league who could flop.
I agree. I hope we aren't held to ransom for Townsend and Beharino. All well and good if we get them, but I don't want to pay over the odds for either of them. I've seen enough in the last few games to be confident we'll get out of the ****e without these two. If Chelsea get Pato, I would expect Remy to leave.
Levy and Peace both behaving like complete pricks, rumour that all deals are off for both Berahino and Townsend as far as we are concerned, some media suggesting that Peace has upped the asking price to £30 million for Berahino.
I am sure a read somewhere that we were offered Pato and decided against him. Not 100% certain, but if true why do you think they didn't fancy him if he is good enough for Chelsea?
For £30 mill - go back in for Lacazette for £25 mill and stick £5 mill on his wages to see how much he really wants Champions League football.
30 million he can rot on the bench, same goes for Townsend, who seems to actually want to come and start afresh. It's a shame for Townsend and l cannot understand why they are scuppering his move when they don't play the guy. I sincerely hope we move on quickly before its to late to implement plan B, presuming we have a plan B of course.
I can only assume that the increase in price for Berahino is because Berahino has told West brom he only wants to go to Spurs and wont sign for us. There is bad blood there now between the two chairmen and I think its become a fight of egos.
