In my opinion the new Football League ruling reducing Sub benches from 7 to 5 is going to hinder the development of Youth players. I think this because, using our squad as an example, the Youth players especially with players like Doble or Reeves only ever just get on the Bench and would always be 6th or 7th choice to be on the Bench and are often in and out of the squad although I can't read NA's mind. I think that when it comes to the bench, Experience will normally put ahead of Youth. I think this new ruling goes against the Youth Academy ruling that will soon be brought in because it decreases the chance a Youth player has to break into the match day squad. On the other hand if a player is good enough at any age he should be able to break into the First Team squad for example Chamberlain. But, then again, Chamberlain made his debut from the Bench in a game what was wrapped up Long before he came on and was just given a run out the same as what Doble or Reeves would get. I haven't made my point at all well but I hope you understand what I mean.
Rarely I'd say 1 in 4 games Doble might just manage to get on the Bench and Reeves even fewer than that and before them McNish and Garrod also struggled to hold down a regular space on the Bench. This goes to show my point that they will now have even less chance of getting on the Bench.
I have always thought it better to loan these players out to lower league clubs, rather than have them sat idle on the bench? This new ruling might actually favour them, if clubs choose to do this rather than play them in the reserves, especially if the other option of giving them a match day experience with an outside chance of getting on the pitch is no longer available to them? Not sure if I am right in thinking this way, but crossed my mind.
I agree. Players will learn and develop more if they go on loan, rather then just sitting on the bench.
