Best stat ever Really enjoyed the game last night even though it became a bit of a training exercise after we scored. Smith played well again, Tex grew into the game and Allen looks to be pushing for a place up front Ibe still needs a lot of work, he could go far this lad but his brain seems slower than his feet at times. Nice to see a few young players step up and show willing and good to see Allen working his ass off and accepting some responsibility. At least a few did their cause no harm at all last night.
yes it looked like that especially after second goal. they gave up and didn't challenge for abll any more. Teix did ok, looked in and out of it but i'm glad he got a goal and should have had assist too in only good cross of the night. YOu are right about ibe... he overcomplicates things but the base talent is there. How klopp draws this out will be interesting Allen really did work hard. fair play to him for that. real pro attitude which is what you want. I thought stewart did quite well for me. what did you think billy. I thought we was very competant in there but slowed the ball down too much at times. Did a good shift in the middle. Smith was MOTM for first half, i liked the foul he did when they got a break. that was my kind of thing we lack and i like. don't let them run = no goal Ilori did fine as well... very hard look good when you've ****e all to do but anyone minding enrique all night has to have done ok. what did you think of him?
I was impressed with Stewart as well. Tex struggled in the first half - think it was down to him being on the wing in a 433 but Klopp changed it to 4231 in second half and he was moved central which is where he stepped up.
Stewart was ok I felt, some good some bad. Another who needs to develop his speed of thought as much as anything technical. I feel sometimes its ok to slow the speed of movement in midfield when you're already a goal up. We have to learn to control the pace of a game better, make the opposition work a lot harder to get the ball back. Stewart held it up nicely at times but then gave a couple of sloppy balls away that get punished at a higher level. Ilori was exactly as expected really. Decent on the ball, pace to burn too. Definitely a big step above the opposition standard but again a couple of loose balls that at a higher level may well prove costly. He could struggle with the physicality of top grade strikers but he did himself no harm last night. Potential but not ready yet imo (still lots of time on his side as a centre back anyway).
sounds about right. Ilori v carroll or any of half a dozen others doesn't really add up. All the time he's been out you'd think he'd have dones some weights somehwere and built up a bit of a power base. 6' 3" and fast.
It's more than just muscle though mate, a lot of the art of defending has to be learned and that takes time. It's about timing, positioning, when to take a step forward or step back etc. Yes a couple more pounds wouldn't hurt but it's about when and how you use that strength too.
that is true. thats a lot of years of work. he's 23, he's got to stand up first to get to earn the spot to learn the rest is my view. If you are brushed off it the rest doesn't come into it cos the team in the prem will eat him alive.
Think it needs restating and putting into perspective that we were playing Exeter ****ing City last night people ... a League Two club So I don't know what all the gushing is about
Probably about our youth mate. They may be Liverpool players but the vast majority of them don't play PL football either..... No one is saying this is now our first 11...just that some of tje young lads did ok?
Yeah young lads did well, it was an FA Cup game so there was pressure on them to perform and they did. Good experience and well done but there'll be bigger challenges and they all need to kick on if they want first team footy.
I thought Stewart was good too but seemed to tire a bit towards the end as a few mistakes started to creep in
