Colchester will be FULL of running so a player like Son will be too much of a handful for them, he must play.
2-0 FT. About time that we beat that negative lot. Decent performance overall, but I think that it emphasised a few gaps in our squad. We need a striker and a centre-half and we need them now.
4 matches, 1 win, 1 defeat 2 draws, 5 for 4 against. Spurs win overall. Always thought a 2-0 was somewhere on the cards, as did Lawro twice. We'll see Spurfect.
Finally we beat those awful negative tactics, we played much better last week and lost. Son was good, thought Wimmer was excellent (didn't have that much to do) but did what he had to do with great calmness and looked assured and Vorm kept a clean sheet
Good win, Pochettino had faith in rotating the squad and it paid off. Bentaleb and Chadli still look rusty although they both had some good moments. Another composed performance from Wimmer alongside Dier, who were effortless in bossing Leicester's attacker. Sonny the star of the show, very good performance and Pochettino needs to be getting him more minutes. Could've scored more but I'm not complaining, it clearly upset Pearce having to commentate on us winning comfortably. Big mouth has gone very quiet too
Oh well, to Palace at the weekend. Chelsea thrashed them as did Man City so I should hope for a similar score for Spurs.
I have to say, I am feeling very optimistic now about the Europa campaign not taking its toll on the PL campaign. I think players like Lamela will be more in the starting XI for the cup games than the PL, but that is what a squad is all about.
Finally beat that sh*tty pub side. @vimhawk 's analysis of them is spot on: when you watch them on MOTD the highlights make them look like a devastating attacking side, but after playing them 4 times now the reality is far, far different. Negative, predictable football from the moment the opposition shows signs of attack. Appalling first half display brightened up by a marvelous finish by Son. And Chadli also reminded us why, despite his languid, half-arsed style of play, he remains possibly the most cucumber cool finisher at the club. A poor man's Berbatov, if you will. Lamela predictably ineffective. I say predictably because he really does struggle against the pub teams with a packed defense and narrow channels of play. What disappointed me today was that his usual tenacity and work rate also didn't show up. All in all a game to forget for him. I thought Walker and Davies grew into the game as it went on, the latter improving drastically after his booking (bizarrely). Erisken was again a pick n mix of good positions and wayward passes. I was pleasantly surprised by Tom today. He is clearly improving his game and learning how to counteract the fact that he resembles a 12 year old by releasing the ball quicker and keeping himself constantly on the move. Well played from him today. Bentaleb started the game like he was punch-drunk but did grow into it too. Still clearly a while off of full match fitness which is a worry because he's been 'returning' for how long now?? MOTM Son - superb goal and lovely through ball for the second. If he can keep that up he will be crucial to our fortunes in the remainder of the season.
Has anyone else noticed how the BBC's live feed has simply frozen at 74mins? It's like the scouser who mans the keyboard for them has seen us go 2 up and had a minor stroke
I noticed that. Well, that penalty in the last minute at WHL proved the lifeline I thought it would. Leicester must be cursing. Also if I were a Liverpool supporter I'd be concerned at the 64 minute gap between the first and second goal. That's a long time not scoring against minnows.
"t's like the scouser who mans the keyboard for them has seen us go 2 up and had a minor stroke" That's Lawro you are talking about !!!
Nice comment by Ranieri about the Spurs quest for the upward path over the past few years, and how the same for Leicester starts now.
