Welcome to the Really, Really, Really, Really, Happy Clappy, Positive Match Thread LIME GREEN AND BLUE VERSUS MANCHESTER WHO versus Saints make the now annual January trek to Salford to pick up the now expected three points on offer at the Theatre of Silence (or is it now the Theatre of Bore Draws?) Match Appointments Referee: Mike Jones Assistants: A Garratt, I Hussin Fourth Official: T Harrington Salford Rovers currently sit 5th in the Premier league on 37 points, only 7 points ahead of Saints; clearly this is way behind their target with us just about on target. League Form last two games (only fair to give Manure a chance) Saints Watford (home) won 2-0, but should have been 5 West Brom (home) won 3-0, but should have been 5 and 1 to them if Pulis had brought Rickie off the bench. Manure Saints stiffs (away) won 0-1, United tried their hardest to destroy Sky audiences with a dour bore fest Newcastle (away) drew 3-3, comically Utd threw away a lead twice against relegation threatened toon This form guide and history of this fixture also points to a Saints win Last League Meeting at Old Trafford Sunday 11th January 2015, Manchester United 0 v 1 Southampton The mighty Saints got United all shirty as they put in, to quote Gary Neville, "The perfect away performance," with JWP sitting on Carrick and Pelle playing a brilliantly crafted pass to Tadic off the post to give the mighty Saints a thoroughly deserved victory and our first win there for 27 years. Possible Saints line-up: Forster, Cedric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand, Target, Vic, JWP, Davis, Mane, Long Subs: Gazza, Yoshida, Pelle, Romeu, Tadic, Clasie and CHARLIE ****ING AUSTIN Formation (there are no choices this game) 5-3-2 clearly this is the most attack minded formation available in the modern game and even surpasses my Subbuteo 6-3-1, which must now be retired to take on the Koeman genius that is 5-3-2 United probably will play 8-1-1 as usual. Oh what the hell, here's another happy reminder..... oh ok ... this one too
"LIME GREEN AND BLUE VERSUS MANCHESTER WHO" - Tremendous Prose I don't think your score prediction is really, really positive enough. In memory of the Davies Hat-Trick in the video. It will be a Charlie Austin Hat-Trick and 4-1 Saints
This game is live on 5 live. So everyone in the country can hear Austin tearing Smalling and co a new one.
Not much tika taka building from the back in 1969! proper get to the byline, cross, header, goal! 0-5 Saints!
Saints should be able to play without the fear factor now that we have moved away from the relegation quicksandsIf the players get out there to enjoy themselves, perhaps Saints can spring a win. Four more wins should be enough to ensure another season in the PL but us fans should want much more.
I will take that critique on the chin. I was tempted to put a message to Charlie after the Ron video, but you know.... there's no point being ridiculous in the match thread
Surely at some stage ManU will have to come out and attack, then we can pick them off on the break. 0-1 Saints !
I really can't see many goals in this. If Austin gets on the pitch he will nick the win for us. 1-0 Saints.
Fran may have unwittingly unraveled the issue of our poor run. Ron in his best Dutch English was telling the players we mustn't take chances... they duly obliged for about 9 games
I shall be annoyed if we can't get a point or three off ManU....after all, everyone else does!! Knowing our luck, the buggers will decide to play against us.
I still can't believe we have lost to them at home the last 2 seasons. Haven't they had 5 shots and scored them all. Edit: . Oh ****, just ruined the really positive match thread. Ok backtrack, big Fraser will stop that happening again.
Over for my second game of the season. ..omens are good, previous game we beat Sunderland one nil and i was there for one nil last season. ..actually most of the games i go to end up one nil saints so what the hell...1 nil saints again with long to score. I doubt it will be a classic either way!any good pubs for away fans to drink in? Had to go to bishops blaze with my united friends which was interesting to say the least!
Well I was going to go 2-1 Saints as well but then I read on Sky that Man Utd are on course for their lowest goal tally ever in the Premier League. I have therefore decided we should help them with this new landmark in their history and will go for 2-0 Saints.
Great work on the preview again fats. I'm definitely optimistic about a result seeing as how dire they've been. Only thing I'd change is adding Cuco to the bench over Pelle (or Austin if he's not 100% yet) as i think we might need to look at defending a lead. Will go 2-1 with Davis and Long to score for us. Especially excited for this one as i will be hosting some Man U supporting mates and we'll be taking shots every time the commentator mentions the gaffers 'feud', Mane shoots wildly into the crowd or the camera holds on LvG scribbling in his notebook for some reason.
I don't remember us winning 4-1 for ages therefore logic dictates its going to happen soon and this game is happening soon so I think that means that the score is very likely to be 4-1 as you can't argue with logic I'd like our goals to include a penalty and an embarrassing own goal but logic has nothing to offer here, so fingers crossed on that. That should get us on MOTD a bit earlier
