My lass is getting on at me to get an African Savannah cat. We used to have one, but I'm not a cat person so it wasn't around for long, before I made her sell it. It was also before we get our German Shepherd, who's a massive part of the family now. I'm starting to ease off a bit on my stance because the kids are saying they really want one too. So my question is, does anybody else have experience of them and what are they like around dogs? This is similar to the one we had, but the one we had wasn't as big, although it was still only young...
She used to make me take the old one swimming, used to walk it down to the lake with it's big harness on
That's what I'm thinking... I'm not sure they grow that big in this country, but if they don't, it's not far off!
African Savannah Cat A Savannah cat is a cross between a domestic cat and the serval, a medium-sized, large-eared wild African cat. The unusual cross became popular among breeders at the end of the 1990s, and in 2001 the International Cat Association accepted it as a new registered breed. In May 2012, TICA accepted it as a championship breed The Savannahs' tall and slim build gives them the appearance of greater size than their actual weight. Size is very dependent on generation and sex, with F1 hybrid male cats usually being the largest. F1 and F2 generations are usually the largest, due to the stronger genetic influence of the African serval ancestor. As with other hybrid cats such as the Chaussie and Bengal cat, Most first generation cats will possess many or all of the serval's exotic looking traits, while these traits often diminish in later generations. Male Savannahs tend to be larger than females. Early-generation Savannahs can weigh 20-40 pounds (9-18 kg), with the most weight usually attributed to the F1 or F2 neutered males due to genetics. Later-generation Savannahs are usually between 7 and 15 lbs (6.8 kg). Because of the random factors in Savannah genetics, size can vary significantly, even in one litter.
Imagine sitting there about to eat a steak with a german shepherd and a ****ing leopard staring at you.
**** knows, don't know that much about them mate. The one we had was a little twat though, it was always in hunting mode. You could be walking from the sittenroom to the front door and it would just pounce on you from the top of the stairs.
