It's "greedy" of Peace to refuse to sell a player he doesn't have to sell for less than he wants to and a "farce" for West Brom to tell the player they brought through the youth team and pay wages to to actually go out and play football for them? You're an odd sort of person HIAG. I'm sure when another club come in for Kane then the famously reasonable Levy will sell him for whatever people want to pay and not ask him to play for them any more.
TBF, I think Peace is making a mistake by playing Billy Big Bollocks. The player clearly wants out, his contract is getting shorter, he's refused to sign a new one and all the stories about him being fined and 'lucky to make the subs bench' are not helping his resale value either. IMO, if a player is insistent that he wants out, negotiate the best deal but let him go. Peace is just lessening his value by being so stubborn.
I agree in part but it depends on the money and the message it sends. Even if they get £20m for him that's not huge money considering the TV money due in, add in sponsors and other revenue streams and putting your foot down and saying you wont be bullied by other clubs or your own players is definitely worth something you can't easily put a figure on. West Brom aren't quite perennial relegation fighters, they're a bit above that and if they want to push on need to attract a higher caliber of player, for that they need a reputation for being a progressive club who work hard to get the best team out on the pitch more than they need £20m in their pocket.
Peace has to deal with realities though. Berahino's contract is now 18 months. In summer that will be 1 yr or less! His value will not increase, but drop. If the player continues to refuse to sign a new contact, Peace is left with no option bug to negotiate the best deal he can - as quickly as he can!
Idealistic clap-trap! No business can afford to throw away £20 million, especially on a player who won't play for you. Berahino said he would got on strike, last Summer, and he's not started a game for WBA since! Quite apart from from the disruption that is causing in the dressing room, the club now has a wasting asset on its books that is next to useless to them! When Berahino gets to within 12 months of his contract, he can buy himself out of it. With the kind of money that he's on, that will be peanuts. WBA will get less than £1 million for him. Whether you like it or not - and you clearly do not - ultimately, the player holds the power. That said, if Newcastle is prepared to pay £18 million up front, Peace may consider that to be better than the reported £23 million that Levy was prepared to pay in installments. That is, of course, provided that the player actually wants to go to Newcastle. It's not been reported that he has.

Berahino appears to have been getting some rather mixed messages from West Brom, though. The comments that Pulis made at the time seemed to suggest as much and the player's were extremely negative. I get the feeling that he was told one thing by his manager and another by his chairman, to be honest. He doesn't suit the style of play that the club currently uses and they loaded up in his position over the summer. Peace's comments after the window shut suggested that they'd basically overcommitted, with the expectation that selling Berahino would cover it. The late sales of Ideye and Lescott seemed to be a way of recovering the finances somewhat, to me. They now need to sell an underperforming player whose contract is running down rapidly. Not ideal. We all know that January inflates prices and dangerous strikers are at a premium right now. Someone will want to take a punt on him.
If there wasn't butthurt over it from rival fans over Spurs wanting him, then there wouldn't be that much attention given to it.
The facts, regarding me on this thread are these. I voted for my third option in the poll - wait until the Summer, and get him for nothing. That's a fact, lads. If we did get him for the £25m that Peace was asking, we'd do it on Levy's terms, by instalments, but it would have to be this January. I clearly stated that I was happy with either outcome. If we don't get him, so what? We'll get someone else who's at least as good as him. As Poch said yesterday, we've got a good squad. We're only going to buy a player if he makes us better, All this needless wumming is getting me down.
By the way, it is being reported that the Toon are offering £18m for Berahino. Now, putting aside the fact that the same press is reporting that the Toon are also offering £18m for Sturridge and £18m for Townsend, and assuming that the Berahino story is gospel, and assuming that Peace turned down a £25m bid from Levy in the Summer (as was reported in the same press), do you wumming lads concede that:- (a) a £7m price-drop would be highly attractive to Levy; and (b) Berahino (who has always stated that he wants to come to Spurs) would rather come to us than the Toon? If you accept both of those suggestions, my dear wums, do you also concede that if, perchance, Berhaino does not come to Spurs that that is likely to be a result of Levy no longer wanting him? Haven't heard anything about us being after Sturridge (not saying the gossip isn't out there, just haven't seen it). Fairly sure we've only offered £14 million for Townsend too. Agree that all the reports I have seen indicate Berahino would prefer to go to Spurs though.
I'm a Newcastle fan and I'd prefer to go to Spurs. Poch has all the hallmarks of a class manager, they have a better team with more English players (which if I'm a young English player I would personally prefer), there'd be less pressure to perform immediately (as they have more cover) and there's the bright lights of the big city (which I wouldn't choose myself but pretty sure Berahino would!). I think Spurs aren't still interested though not entirely convinced it's solely for footballing reasons. There's also been plenty of occasions in the past of clubs famously refusing to do business with other clubs on principle and accepting lower offers elsewhere - I actually don't think that's the case here but not convinced it can be ruled out entirely that Peace wouldn't prefer to sell him to anyone other than Tottenham (I can imagine Levy rubbing anyone/everyone up the wrong way).
