As the Lacazette thread descended into FM bobbins, though it worth gauging the opinions on Saido's impending move to Newcastle which is ALLEGEDLY due tomorrow. (Soccer Sauce have been tweeting about it and Saido was left out of the Baggies squad tonight.) Fee is likely to be an Owen-busting £18m. Personally I'm not fully sold. Seemed to explode onto the scene, got carried off with his own hype and then struggled. Pulis obviously doesn't want to play him just for the sake of it and seems a bit sulky; however, like Shelvey, I wonder if he could be another that perhaps doesn't see NUFC as a big club, but will change his mind once he actually arrives! Thoughts?
Doesn't float my boat either. Seems a huffy sod with an average record. Hardly played this season, if he had even a half decent attitude he should have been in. Perhaps Pulis doesnt rate him.
Could be the pacey striker we need. People were underwhelmed with the shelvey deal but could be good for us
If it's less than £20m then its a risk but not a huge one. I have no doubt he's better than most of the options around the £10m mark but once you get into the £20m+ bracket I'd have hoped for more. He's 22, scored 14 goals last season and got the Players Player of the year at West Brom. More importantly we seem to be bringing in English players and I think it does genuinely help to have a sprinkling in the side (call me jingoistic) - maybe we can hope for Alnwick, Dummett, Taylor, Williamson, Colback, Jonjo, Townsend, Berahino and perhaps bring Nolan and Ameobi X 2 in!!
As usual I couldn't give a **** about the price. He worries me and he hasn't achieved a whole lot. His goal record is decent enough for a young 22 yr old. I just sense a Andy Cole scenario. Arm round the shoulder, told you're the main man and he flourishes with a bit of love from the stands.
I get the feeling he has struggled with Pulis because Pulis likes the big strong workhorses, he is very much defensive in his mindset rather than expansive attacking modes which may suit Berahino more, had he still been at Stoke the team never would have evolved as it has and is still doing under Hughes
The old saying, would rather have him inside the tent pissing out than outside pissing in springs to mind. He has bags of potential and can be very dangerous in the future with the right manager and team. Alongside Mitrovic and Wijnaldum he would be lethal.
Well if Everton value Lukaku at 64 million ! Then it does seem like a reasonable price to be fair Still think 14 million for Townsend is on the steep side, 12 being nearer the mark imho. What value on Gini if Lukaku is seen as plus 60?
I dont wanna big defoe up too much because I know how the Mackems obsess with us and come over to our site all the time, But! Berahino is a young defoe and over the years defoe has been lethal, it took him some time from his west ham days where he got 29 goals in 93 which includes 11 in championship, but now the guy has 170 odd goals which isnt bad at all Berahino has 22 in 85 which isnt too dis-similar to Defoe, I think the lad could grow into a top striker.
Mitrovic with presence, Berahino with pace and and eye for goal. Wijnaldum and Shelvey providing through balls, Townsend and whoever on the other side providing crosses. Yeah, you can guess the rest. We would be entertaining to watch and dangerous.
I would take him. He would add something different and he is at the age now where he needs to kick on with his career. At 18 million it is a bit steep and it would mean less game time for Ayoze. If given the choice between Ayoze and Bera I would go with Bera all day long. Different types of player I know but its goals we need and Bera could be the one to get them.
I like the fact he is young and English, but you do have to wonder if it's just more of the same in terms of being able to 'sell them on for a profit'. I'm not excited by this possible transfer, but if he slots-in as well as Shelvey has, we might have a decent option. More English talent please!
Hmm, not sure about the tactical assessment there. SM tends to play a 4-2-3-1 formation and Bera is too small to be a target man. He could play wide-left (where Perez has) but would he be happy with that?
