Just finished watching "truth" I really liked it,
But Jees, Robert Redford is getting old...
It's a bit like another Redford film, "all the presidents men" with dustin Hoffman, but not as good... Still well worth a watch though if you like that type of film, oh and it's based on a true story ....

That would have been perfect in some ways... Eli Roth was the ' Bear Jew' I seem to remember!

I quickly scanned through half of that last week before watching it and it looks pretty gruesome.
    Still yet to watch it.
The Martian is a bit too far fetched at times, what with that tarpaulin and one minute a difference in air pressure in the airlock on mars is enough to create an explosion but that same air pressure difference is held back by polythene and gaffa tape.
Still highly watchable and I really enjoyed it.
For some strange reason tonight I watched a young Angelina Jolie in Gia (1998), nothing to do with her boobs being on show for half the film.

Yeah, it's well gruesome. It's the sequel to 'House of a 1000 Corpses' so you should really watch that gruesome film first.
In the book of The Martian, he uses the same airlock all the time and it slowly hints at a tear developing for a while, and it's the sudden repressurising that blows the hatch. The whole habitat is gradually pressurised which is why the polythene holds, just, and knowing how weak that repair is added to the tension for me and reminds you how perilous his position really is.
I've seen Gia and her boobs and the lesbianism is just so, so awful. For some reason though the bit that I remember the most is when she's sticking needles in her scabby ****ing arms. It's based on a true story, isn't it?

I watched 'Room' yesterday and I won't give anything away but **** me, it gave me some weird dreams last night. I'll give it a strong 7/10.
I also watched the new(ish) Fantastic 4. It's a not so fantastic 4/10. If that.

Yeah that Gia is based on fact, and its so depressing but that is heroin for you. That constant hole in her hand!!!!! and to go from one of the richest models in the world to being drugged up raped and abused down back alleys was sad. And to also contract AIDS and die with her death going unreported in the press at the time was also sad. That line where he mother said when they lifted her off the bed after she had died her skin stuck to the mattress.....

Ill look out for Room but give Fantastic 4(/10) a miss. I do find all those super hero films hard to buy into.

The constant hole is imprinted forever. Gross.

I watched 'The Hunt' today. It's a Danish film with Mads Mikkelsen (of TV's superb Hannibal) about a little lie that snowballs into hysteria. It's heavy stuff. 8/10.

Saw The Big Short today, brilliant comedy-drama about the financial crisis a few years ago.

It's another one of the films nominated for Best Picture (Christian Bale is also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in it too).

It has a sublime cast, the story is superb, and the comedy is, well, funny.

Not on the level of The Revenant (gonna be hard for something to beat that for a few years) but definitely one of the best films of the past year.

As a joke I was dying to recommend an oldish film I watched at the weekend called Pillow Talk starring a young Ewan McGregor, on imdb the comments suggest it is a beautiful thought provoking film with the added bonus of plenty of flesh on show. However it is so repetitive and dull, I was forcing myself to watch it akin to admiring the emperors clothes but gave up halfway through. I will try and watch the second half but maybe I'm just not intelligent to "get it"

I'm a generous guy, I rounded up from a 3.6. I watched it on my laptop when the missus was watching Big Brother, maybe that made it seem better than it was.

Day 18, film 18, " fathers and daughters", staring Russell Crowe
Not usually a big fan of Mr Crowe but this sounds a good film.

    Agreed.

Fantastic Four is arguably (i'd say Catwoman and Batman & Robin are worse) the worst comic book film made. It's horrible.

    2/10 at best.

Rating for The Revenant (never gave one before): 10/10
Rating for The Big Short 8/10

Am gonna watch The Danish Girl tonight, just to see if Redmayne's performance is any good.
