I'm watching the Swansea game and the commentator just said costel is off to watford should be confirmed tomorrow. Nothing on SSN anyone heard this
Never heart owt, but as i said on another thread, Big Sam came out with a statement when describing Pickfords performance. "Vito is number one and i'm confident with Pickford and we have Costel" "for now" I reckon he'll be on decent wages so maybe trying to free up for more incoming?
Watford and La Liga outfit eye Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon please log in to view this image Costel Pantilimon [email protected] 19:03Monday 18 January 2016 6HAVE YOUR SAY Watford and Spanish side Espanyol have emerged as possible suitors for out-of-favour Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon. The ex-Manchester City stoppers future at the Stadium of Light looks increasingly bleak after he has been left out of the matchday squad for the last three games. With Sunderland looking to offload one of their three keepers before the end of the transfer window, Pantilimon is the firm favourite to depart, with the 28-year-old notably on a heftier salary than Vito Mannone. Watford have been mooted as a possible destination for Pantilimon, to provide competition for Heurelho Gomes. And Espanyol could also offer an exit route, with reports in Pantilimons native Romania that the La Liga outfit are interested in the Sunderland man. Ex-Romanian international Constantin Galca took charge at Espanyol last month and wants to bring his compatriot to the side lying just above the relegation zone. The big problem for Espanyol would be the financial aspect of any move, particularly the wages, after Pantilimon penned a lucrative Bosman contract at Sunderland 18 months ago. But after losing his place as Sunderland number one and with Mannone and Jordan Pickford also available to Sam Allardyce, Pantilimons chances at the Stadium of Light are likely to be limited if he doesnt depart this month. After Sunderland completed a draining schedule of three successive away games last week, the Black Cats are expected to now increase their efforts to offload players over the remaining fortnight of the window. Danny Graham started last weekends defeat at Spurs, yet the ex-Swansea man is still likely to depart before the end of the month, with his Sunderland contract expiring next summer. Championship pair Wolves and Blackburn have both made enquiries with Sunderland for Graham, with the latter in pole position to land the 30-year-old. As well as fringe players Valentin Roberge and Charis Mavrias, Sunderland are also looking to move on midfielder Jordi Gomez. The Spaniard was a regular under both Gus Poyet and Dick Advocaat after arriving on a free transfer from Wigan 18 months ago. But Gomezs only appearance in the last two months was in Boxing Days defeat at Manchester City and he hasnt even been on the bench since then.
Confirmed! Undisclosed fee. Cheers Pants and hope you have a mare and pull them back in to the mix, especially last game of the season if we need the points!
Talk on Twitter is of he'd played one more game he would have qualified for a improved contract. Hopefully we can use the freed wages on some quality defenders.
Apparently on double Vito's wage, if true it's one expensive 3rd choice keeper to keep on board and his distribution doesn't suit a counter game. Very good Keeper that said. All the best Pants.
Just thinking that. The thing is, if Sam`s wanting to bring in a big target lad at the sharp end, Pickfords distribution is much more likely to find him. Just a thought like.
For me he was good last season but I have not been impressed this season - just seems to be several goals where he has watched them go past him without reacting. May just be me like but I think of that save of Vito's in the first half against Villa and can't help feeling if that was Pants we would have been 1 down. Still good luck to him except against us though
Good luck to the lad, he has done a decent enough job for us. Looks like a show of intent to give pickford his chance in our first team though which is a big plus.
