Is it me or is this site getting slower and slower? Could be my PC of course but pages are taking an age to load.
Seems A1 to me, Cyprus. I saw that Mick increased the server power last night and it has been zipping along all morning. Anybody else agree?
Don't understand it, not that I'm very good at these things. All the other sites I use are fine but here can take ten seconds to load a page. Maybe I'm just to impatient.
The server isn't great, despite being dedicated and quite powerful it was chugging along yesterday. I bought a much more powerful server which I intended to move to last night but the ISP still haven't got it configured yet which is quite annoying. Hopefully tonight
As has been said Mick upgraded last night, could just be timing, clicking on a link when a lot of others do, always going to be someone hits the tail end of the pipe. I have had a couple of slow loads when refreshing the main Sunderland board. I had a hell of a lot more on 606 with server busy signs. Iv'e got 50Mb broadband and still get delay on some of the big sites.
Mick. Before the Beeb stuck the knife into 606 you must have been quiet on here. Did you ever think of jacking it in?
We've had it going in various guises for about 2 years but with the low amount of traffic it cost practically nothing to run and I've got some good pals on here so was no reason to jack it in. Getting a bit of a handful now mind.
I'm with Virgin mate, they are offering 100 Mb . Won't bother I hardly download now. And the boys Xbox and PS3 have no problems. Big step up from COmpuserve and Aol dialup, christ I'd hate to go back to 2Kb downloads
Mick, You want to get some advertising on the go mate to compensate the running costs. So long as they are unintrusive and relevant, i'm sure most won't be offended. Your site's gonna continue to grow, and take more of your time, i'm sure no-one would mind you doing whats best for you, so long as it doesn't change the feel of the site. I'm bloody sure i would in your boat
Trying my best to stear away from advertising mate, would prefer the trust that comes from a not-for-profit site like the BBC. Will see how costly things get but hopefully can avoid it.
That's very noble of you mate, but inevitably the upkeep of the site will cost, like i say, link to skysports, or bet365, things most of us use anyway, non flash, people would barely notice. I'll admit that i'm always looking at ways to make a few quid, such is life, so ignore me and stick with your much classier morals if you can, but we all love your site, your 'hobby' has become a national story, overnight!
I like your intentions Mick but a couple of small ones would go practically unnoticed, its the big flash banners that are a pain. Stick a couple of unobtrusive click throughs on, if everyone clicks through a couple of times a week should easy pay your costs. Philanthropy is all well and good until it costs more than you can afford.
Spot on mate. To be fair, i'd probably appreciate a link to skysports and bet365, it'd save me opening a new tab! I'm sure i'm not alone.
