Now doesn't feel like a time to add players. Our current squad and any sort of half reasonable coaching should keep us up fairly easily. Then sort the squad mess out in the summer with the new manager calling the shots. We've got a huge amount of dead/not utilised wood in our squad at the moment. There's also the core of a very decent team. What is worrying is maybe Slade has persuaded the board the pitch is the issue. He may have bought himself until the summer at least by blaming it.
Well should that be true, I really do despair for the future of this club. It would just confirm the lack of footballing nous at the top level that ultimately controls our destiny.
It's very much me having a 2+2=5 moment but the "final straw of Sunday" from a 'club source', followed by the instant tearing up of the terrible playing surface does feel like it's an excuse that's been offered up by Slade and/or the players. No excuses once it's relaid. I've been fairly certain for a few weeks that it'll be this summer before we can start celebrating any meaningful steps forward with regards to the club progressing. I think we'll just have to accept this season being written off as the mid table borefest it's already become.
Mail suggesting Burnley are looking at Connolly to push them back into the Prem this season - he's already done it with 4 clubs.
Then we would be really knee deep in the soft and smellies. Not sure he would go up't north though. All his clubs have been south of Birmingham and his family still live in London - hence he was happy with the loan to Watford. However, he might want to further enhance his cv and have another shot at the Prem. No sign of that with us anytime soon.
Stevo - get your hankie out.......... http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTO...man-Federico/story-28543399-detail/story.html
Very true Sparky. Nathan Blake suggested Noone's better performance on Saturday was to show what he's got 'For The Shop Window'. Quite possibly.
I think that's disrespectful to Noone. He gives 100% every game, always looks to beat his man and always looks to get a shot away. On Saturday he had the beating of his man (easily) and 2 flew in for him. I think he just had a good day rather than any sort of heightened motivation.
Noone's best game of the season by a long chalk and two of his strikes flew in instead of over the bar as previously. I doubt he was showcasing himself - it just worked for him on the day. I just hope the one good game is going to be indicative of the rest, because up till recently he's been way off the mark with both his shooting and general game.
I think he has been more like his old self the last half a dozen games or so but little support or ability from the other players didn't help until Saturday. However, until we have a striker who can compete for crosses he will always have to come inside and shoot or lay off as he did for Ralls goal. Clearly Wolves didn't do their homework as most sides put 2 players on Noone whenever he gets the ball well up the pitch. Nevertheless I'm delighted for him as he works hard and gives his all. He was last man tackling back on a couple of occasions in a couple of games recently. If the rest could tap into the enthusiasm and commitment from him and Fabio we would be a lot better off.
Good news. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/connolly-signs-long-term-city-deal-2908639.aspx
Yes, excellent news. He and Marshall have been our rocks this season. If nothing else it adds a mill or 2 to any fee Burnley would have to pay to sign him. I hope the foul mouthed clown who sits behind me at CCS reads this (if he can read ). He ritually shouts personal insults at Connolly and other City players every game, regardless of their performance. Being in Ninian Row H, he is close enough for them to hear. A great way to encourage your team - NOT!!!!
Little annoys me more than people who've made their mind up about players and refuse to let what is actually happening on the pitch change that. We've all got it wrong and right about certain players over the years but you have to be ready to change those opinions (especially the negative ones) if the player gets his act together.
Absolutely Stevo. It's actually quite positive to be able to change your mind on a player when they start to get things right. For me Ralls is a prime example. While I would never slag him off during a game, I had always thought he was a bit lightweight and slow but his improvement this season in a central role has made me rethink my view on him.
