Lets hope not.... If the owner/Board are seriously considering a Division 4 Manager who has failed previously, then it shows the level of their ambition.
Well according to News Now Ashton is leading the search for the new head coach. Unbelievable. http://www.westerndailypress.co.uk/Ashton-lead-search-new-manager/story-28544446-detail/story.html
Well he's probably better placed to comment than the owner/Board I guess...providing he doesn't recommend Appleton of course !
10:13 BRISTOL CITY TO TAKE TIME OVER NEXT MANAGER Sky sources are telling us Bristol City have had “significant interest” and at least 30 applications for manager’s job following the departure of Steve Cotterill last week. The Championship club plan to take their time with the decision, which could take weeks rather than days. Bristol City will then narrow the list to a few names and then do relevant diligence on each candidate. John Pemberton will remain in charge in the meantime.
It therefore begs the question as to what happens in the transfer window? I hear rumours of two (SC choice) candidates having to withdraw from medicals. If it transpires that we bring in players that are not of the new manager's liking and then go down...it really will be a PR nightmare. What a disaster this season has been. Still nothing lasts forever.
Typical City It's a stupid decision to sack a Manager at this time of year if the appointment of a replacement is going to take weeks, by which time the transfer window will be long closed and we may be even closer to L1. Surely the owner/board wont allow signings to be made by Pemberton/Elliott in the meantime Another fine mess
Pemberton has apparently also put his name forward for consideration. Let's hope that one result doesn't sway the decision his way. We need an experienced Championship Manager, not another Millen thank you very much...! I've also heard from a source, that Keith Dawe may be stepping down as Chairman in the Summer.
To be honest as said before, if they decided enough was enough with SC, it should have been done Christmas time. What ever happens now, even if new players come in, they will have to have time to gel. I think the only hope we have is that if a manager is not appointed in time for the transfer window then Pemberton & Elliott will shake things up with formations etc like against Boro (which worked). I rather that than rush in on the cheap like we have in the past and get the right manger that's required..
I think the original plan before Christmas was for COTTS to take us through to the end ! but .. the open "foul mouthed encounter" on the media and comments that were basically stating I am trying to carry water in a paper bag when only a bucket will do showed a negativity that was not welcome, SC was basically making a rod for his own back with comments and actions in the few days before he left
Well based on our performance against Middlesbro, it would seem a little shortsighted to dismiss the JP/WE combo. Let's see what develops....
You never know do you Prem. If the results go our way over the next few games perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Most Managers, whether permanent or interim usually enjoy a honeymoon period. It even worked for Millen ffs, to the degree he got the job. IMHO we need an experienced Manager who knows the ropes at this level and who has the contacts needed within the game to be able to attract the sort of quality players we need. Therefore, Stuart Pearce doesn't fit the bill...
I know that it doesn't always work, but wasn't Swansea and even Liverpool in the 70's built on people within? I think it might be too soon for Elliott but perhaps a joint partnership with Pembo might bed him in a bit. After all we cried out for the formation to be changed and use the squad. First game was brave and look at the performance the players, they looked comfortable and even looked like the was enjoying themselves. I always think that every good manager started as an assistant maybe we might strike it lucky. If they get hammered tonight mind I'm deleting this comment
True - isnt that how Jose Mourinio started with Porto? I think he was the boot-boy or something. They all started somewhere - even SAF. It's a massive gamble though - same as Delboy was - and we all know that ended in tears.
