I know this appears a bit morbid but with the recent sad loss of David Bowie and today Alan Rickman, it got me thinking about who else we've lost in the past year. After doing a little bit of research I was amazed to see just how many famous people have left us.

    Christopher Lee
    Natalie Cole
    Maureen O'Hara
    Leonard Nimoy
    Omar Sharif
    Rod Taylor (The Time Machine)
    Geraldine McEwan
    Lemmy
    Ron Moody
    Anthony Valentine
Dean Jones (Beethoven, Herbie Rides Again)
    Patrick Macnee
    Louis Jourdan
    Terry Pratchett
    Jackie Collins
    Warren Mitchell
Stephen Lewis ("I hate you Butler!")
    Colin Welland
    Anne Kirkbride (Deirdre Barlow)
    Lance Percival
    Ben E. King
Brian Clemens (Script Writer The Avengers etc..)
Robin Stewart (Mike Abbot 'Bless This House')
Pauline Yates (Reggie's wife Elizabeth 'The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin)
    Ruth Rendell (Writer)
    Percy Sledge
    Errol Brown (Hot Chocolate)
    Keith Harris (Orville's Dad)
    James Last (Composer)
    Steve Strange
    Val Doonican
    Jimmy Hill
    Richie Benaud
David Nobbs (Comedy writer 'The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin', 'A bit of a Do')
    Gordon Honeycombe (Newsreader)
    Jim Diamond (Singer)
    Hugh Scully
Nicholas Smith (Mr Rumbold in 'Are You Being Served?')
    Cilla Black

Quite a list that and I'm sure there are many others who I've missed :frown:

Looking at the list at least the vast majority has a pretty decent innings.

.....and tonight I found out that one of the expats in Udon Thani (and good friend), who ran the Sports Bar, dies on Dec 13th - just 41 years old <yikes>
Okay he did not do himself too many favours with non-stop drinking in the last year or so but 41? It is beginning to make me think about my own morality.

That's an amazing list, KIO. I only knew of a small minority of those.

Founder member, vocalist and guitarist of the Eagles, Glenn Frey, joins the list of RIPs today.
Outstanding band, especially in the early 70's before Hotel California.
I love the first three albums on which Frey is a major contributor.
Thanks for the glorious memories, Glenn <ok> <peacedove> <rose>

A band I never go in to, probably because they are American Rock and not British Rock.
All the same, sad to see another artist pass away.

I've seen The Eagles 6 times over the years and Glenn was a superb musician with a great sense of humour. Agree with Cromer that the early Eagles stuff was the best, particularly On the Border, but the last album, Long Road out of Eden, was excellent and was a big renaissance for the band.

Sad loss coming so soon after Lemmy and Bowie's departures.

Hell of a band being assembled the other side of the veil over the past few weeks. Must be some nervous drummers out there.....

To explain, the like was for the work by KIO, not for the fact that these people had left us. It is an amazing list.

Be careful associating with me KIO - I have dark powers of foresight and I am a confirmed and unrecanted heretic. I will however desist from predicting any future deaths.
