And yet s you say, you manage to score against these better teams without a striker?

Could it just be that you cant play if the opposition don't give you acres of space and all the time you need?

I hear you; I also hear Sanchez wanted to live in London. That said, I don't think Sanchez has been all that for Arsenal, particularly, not in Suarez's class, but much better than Benteke. Where was the thinking that he was worth £32.5 mill?

Is Rodgers trying to justify himself here? I think so. I also think the transfer committee want knee-capping and soon. A strong rumour abounds that Klopp is playing Caulker to say to the owners look this is all we have. Interesting...

Man united did give us space. We got into some good positions in and around your box.

Personally, I don't think we can judge the committee until Klopp has had a chance to work with them.

Reason being, Rodgers clashed with the committee and it wasn't a cohesive unit. As a result, we bought players who didn't suit one another which left an imbalanced squad, and the manager who was happy to drop certain players after one bad performance but persist with his own.

Overall, the committee haven't done that badly IMO - Coutinho, Sturridgr, Sakho, Can, Moreno have been our better players over recent times, and Firmino is a quality player in the making along wit highly rated youngsters like Markovic and Origi.

The reason we failed so badly is that the big money we spent on marquee signings let us down. Lallana, Lovren, Benteke and even Milner. 4 key positions all massively low on quality and highly wasteful on resources in terms of fees or wages. All 4 were Rodgers's picks.

That's true, but let's rewind to when football meant something back in the Shankly/Paisley era without the stupid money scenario. Consider: did fans back then think their players didn't fit into their system? Who knows? The online forum didn't exist in those days...so if not, who analysed their fate? I betcha it was the manager.

Didn't score because we don't have a good striker. If Sturridge wasn't shattered like a piece of glass at a demolition derby that had just been struck by a nuclear warhead whilst the center of the earth imploded, we would have won that.

Instead, because of years of bad transfer signings we're left with just Benteke, who has his uses, but is far from what we need... although probably should have come on sooner... And Firminio, who isn't really a striker and has only one great game every 8 weeks.

Overall I thought Liverpool dominated most of the game but if you don't have anyone that can score a goal it only takes the opposition scoring once to lose the game.

Btw, thought Martial and DeGea were your best players at the weekend. They were the two players that kept you in the game before the goal.

We could've driven a ****ing 18 wheeler down the right hand side with the space Darmian was giving us in the 1st half.

What's all this I keep hearing about Firmino not being a 'striker'? Luis wasn't exactly a centre-forward when we bought him. Don't get me wrong, I can see firmino's overall game improving, and his pace and movement was excellent, now that he seems to be getting stronger. But for £25m+ I expect more goals than 3 in how many games? Does anyone on here deny he hasn't had a lot more chances than three? (and one of them was a worldie too).

We spunked £25m on the will o' the wisp lallana -surely his goal return is not now the benchmark of expectations?

I think whenever a manager gets sacked he does his best to justify his poor signings and claim they wanted X, Y & Z but weren't given the money or the board ****ed up the deal. Benitez did the same after getting sacked. Its pointless because he didn't sign Sanchez, he should've dealt with it. Ferguson didn't get Shearer, Ronaldinho etc. but he just got on with it. To be honest if Rodgers' plans disintegrated because one player turned us down then it shows how flimsy the rest of the squad he had assembled actually was.

I'm SURE Suarez was a striker at Ajax 110 apps 81 goals better then what he done at Liverpool 110 Apps 69 goals.

Firmino Hoffenheim 140 Apps 39 goals Liverpool 19 Apps 3 goals.

He actually played off the striker or on the left at Ajax IIRC.

Giving Migs a five-year contract doesn't seem a good start re Klopp and the resources argument.

Maybe he wants him as a back up keeper to Ward

True, but I think it would be unfair on Firm to expect him to be as good as Suarez... (although for the money we spent I want to see more consistency)

Does seem rather bizarre. Migs isn't terrible but it seems to lack ambition to extend his contract. He's not a top 4 goalkeeper by any means.

Apparently today is statistically the most depressing day of the year. Hmmm. Yesterday at 4pm took some beating.

It's a bank holiday Monday where I am but I have to work (like on every bank holiday).

    That's always a bit depressing.

Suarez is a natural striker - he scores goals for fun in any advanced position.

Firmino is not a natural striker. He's a goal scoring midfielder and his return isn't that bad given its his first season and the pressure is on him. The 19 appearances is nonsense - he's only played 1000 mins for Liverpool in the league.

3 goals in 5 games starting as a false 9 with 3 assists is a very good return.

Now imagine when he has quality like Sturridge and Coutinho around him instead of Lallana and Milner.

IF Rogers is being honest over the Balottelli business I think that should be the final nail in the coffin for the Committee and, if they're so ****ing insistent upon it, FSG. yes, I do feel that strongly over it. We could have bought Shaqiri and/or Berahino for that £16m that summer, and either of them has more potential of becoming a £50m player than Mario (though does this not confirm we're not a top club but a ****ing second hand car lot nowadays, and not a very good one at that?).

So, the raison d'etre of Liverpool Football Club, in an era when premiership clubs are rolling in sponsorship and television money, is to buy players solely with the intent to make money on them? Note - it's not to find a gem in the lower leagues and save a fortune on buying big (I'm all for that) but it's to make money on players, and for what? Where would that go, if we actually became decent at it?

Liverpool Feeder Club. Should have a fruit machine and cold coffee served in plastic cups on the forecourt.
