Here's the ones that I can remember with Manchester United connections; with the exception of Ray Wilkins, Danny Simpson and Ravel Morrison (ignoring the latter two off field activities), none of the others showed great pedigree. As such, I'd conclude that any player with Manchester United connections joining QPR are unlikely to set the world alight. Here the thing on Morrison Sku, who I know you like. Ferguson reckoned him the best in his age group in the country. But he still let him go as a wrong'un. The ego of subsequent managers ('I can do better than SAF....') has kept him in employment, but for short stints only. A hopeless case I suspect, both as a footballer and a human being. I would be genuinely delighted to be proved wrong. You forgot Will Keane, but who can blame you for that?
Morrison falls into the same category as Taarabt, plenty of talent but nothing between his ears, really sad.
Really not sure, Pardew obviously prefers Hennessey, and he now appears to be #3 with Speroni more often on the bench these days. Purely academic, but as for Hennessey, he shipped 3 goals yesterday at Man City in PL play, another 5 goals there in the LC, 3 against Chelsea, 3 against West Ham, so obviously a few defensive issues. If you look at the points per game stats, with McCarthy, Palace accumulated 9 pts from 6 games (1.5 pts per game), with Hennessey in goal Palace amassed a further 22 pts from 16 games (overall 31 pts from 22 games), so similar pts/game average as McCarthy (24 pts, based on his 6 games). With McCarthy playing, goals for 8, against 7 - currently overall 23 F, 24 A (so team has maintained similar average with Hennessey). McCarthy's 3 losses, were 2-1 to Arsenal and 1-0 defeats to Man City & Spurs, so much tighter score losses than Hennessey has recently. Based on that perhaps Pardew will give him another run at some point, although Speroni is also fit again now.
I'm pretty sure it was because he looked unsure of himself, gave his defence no confidence, and threw a couple of the goals in his own net. Just like his few appearances for us. Stats are just stats mate.
How did I forget him! His best moments, seconds before kick off jumping up and down on the spot raring to go. Only problem was, that was it. Woeful. I'm editing the list to add him to the hall of shame. As for Ravel Morrison. You're spot on. I love a rebellious player. Well, when he's on our side. Great theory. I might even host it as my own away from these message boards! I think there's real substance to it.
Perhaps he just required more games to gain that confidence. As for Hennessey, his recent stats really don't look that great, so Pardew might change things up with McCarthy or Speroni. Healthy competition is always good though between a couple of top keepers. We should have played McCarthy more that PL season, and ditto for Smithies this season. David Bentley would be a good signing for the future - not sure if he would want to sit on our bench though behind Smithies, versus #1 at Southend. Would certainly keep Smithies on his toes and honest though - really not sure where Joe Lumley fits into our long-term picture.
But also the victim of the boo boys in his last couple of seasons, when his goal tally collapsed. We've been a fussy bunch of fans for decades.
Yes. Three signed from Manchester United in 1979. The statistics suggest that any player signed pre-Alex Ferguson were a success. By contrast; and supporting my theory that he would never release a talented player with potential. Certainly we have not benefitted hugely as the last 15 years show.
I don't remember that SB, I for one never booed him, he was superb alongside Stan, Gerry and the class of '75
