Let me paraphrase another post I made earlier about promotion - I will never give up hope on promotion, right up until it's mathematically impossible, however the realist in me acknowledges that it's unlikely. I'm not going to drone on, but there are positives if you look objectively. You mentioned the Wendies. I still shudder when someones mentions 6-1. Did it look likely yesterday? Have we been absolutely cuffed by anyone this season? Any 6-4's or other embarrassing results? The facts are that yesterday was only the second time we've gone down with a 2 goals or more margin. And the 3-0 against Boro was even more unbelievable, given they only had 3 on target! So for me, a mark of progress is not getting humped embarrassingly as often, and when we're losing, it's only by a single goal. When was the last time we were that stable? (Not going to get us promotion, I acknowledge, but it's a significant step forward).
TBH, and being realistic, we need more than progress to get promoted atm. We do need more qualty players that want to win & will fight to achieve that. Bidcutt was the first step along that pathway, & I hope Evans impresses us again. Sadly, January isn't the best time to find what you want.
Unlike your goodself I am not going to waste my time doing comparisons by the week because they are pointless with too many variables that are beyond control. Instead I will judge our progress measured against where we finished last term.... And guess what........... We have made no progress. If you want to close your eyes and put your fingers ears and imagine things are better than the actuality then that of course is your perogative just as its my perogative not to. The difference is you are attacking me for my opinion. If you can't cope with others with a different opinion I would again recommend the ignore function because the longer the season gets the more the stats back that we are 17 the for a reason....
I've been impatient for too long, and it's not done me any good. Trying to be realistic & as positive as possible. I just take the view that if there aren't any big moves forward, I should applaud the teetering little steps. Btw, don't get me wrong - I'm no paragon of virtue. If we had a cat, the RSPCA would be looking for me on match days
That's the way they talk in eastenders. Bloody double negatives and I can never understand what they mean. Please explain in simpler terms for someone who would Not be even considered for a Mensa membership Doc
Now you've lost me. You're the one complaining that we're in 17th place and that constitutes a lack of progress, as the league table is "the only measure that matters", even though we were 3 places further down the table on this day last year. Or an apple v apple comparison as some might call it. So are you now saying the position in the league at the end of the season is the only criterion to consider when addressing our progress? i.e. you prefer an orange v orange comparison? Or, as I suspect, are you now saying it suits you better to use apples & oranges - i.e. comparing our current 'in-season' position to the position we finished at the end of last season? What a load of bollox. You should run the tory policy department for them!
Life is too short to be going back and comparing each week to argue with you. But as our current position is the biggest picture from this year and the final positions from last year that seems an appropriate easy comparison. It suited your argument a couple of weeks ago, and did I bleat? No. Having said that any move from 21st to anything less than 10th is so small as to be irrelevant IMO. Far better to remember that Cellino said if we didn't get promoted this season he would have failed at Leeds and would go. He was right and he should. I am meeting Gary Verity next month on a none footballing matter and might get chance to ask him about where any takeover he is involved in has got.......
Inappropriate apples & oranges comparisons it is then, I guess. Absolutely laughable. You'd fit right in with this mob's views ... https://www.conservatives.com/join
Self righteous? Me? No matey. I just believe in a level playing field when quoting statistics. Apples v apples. Not twisted apples v oranges comparisons to support yet another unwarranted attack on the club
This site is not the club, and nobody from it is going to ever read it..... It's just a collection of sad old men shooting the breeze............ Unless you know different. Oh and no one is attacking the club, we are all only expressing opinions.....
Who said this site was the club? Strange comment. And your opinions can constitute an attack on the club. But then, that's only my opinion, and according to you, you can't be wrong with an opinion.
Jock, Your friends have let it be known they don't want you getting oxygen starvation so I am going to put you back now. But please swim away and try not to get attracted by bread and sweetcorn every time you encounter it. #catchandrelease #thegreatbritishrodrace
Did he not bring in the 2 best young lads from Doncaster last week ? matching the fee agreed by West ham,did he not bring in the best young Irish striker last season ? So is that nothing or are you just talking rubbish again.
