Real potential yes. Imaginary potential no. From all known previous activity there is IMO more potential of Cellino been to reason to believe he and LUFC will suffer a crippling meltdown than the football team been anything other than mediocre at best........... Until the results, performances and league table say otherwise I at least have grounds to believe and support my opinion
I hate the ownership of the club whoever it is as much as you do and I agree that the club will not progress as a club until we get someone with a lot of money who cares as much as the supporters do, however the team under Steve Evans I believe are playing better football in patches than any Leeds team for a long time.
Morning troops. Happy to let you know Chippy that we're just a good striker short of being a decent side. The other side of the coin is that the chances of us landing a decent striker in this TW are not good. Having a decent striker yesterday was the difference yesterday. On chances created, we should have won comfortably. The difference was, they had Hooper, and we didn't.
If that's the only problem.... I look forward to Cellino spending circa £12mill to buy one, and breaking the wage structure and paying them circa £30k a week....... Anyone seeing the problem?
WJ. I agree all this is subjective but though you feel the areas I judge on are currently immeasurable do you honestly believe we have any chance of promotion? We've only won 7 of our 27 league games! Also I'd agree we have lowered the age of the playing squad, though quality is more important than age to me and some on here don't rate all our academy boys. We have got rid of a certain amount of deadwood but seem to be stockpiling a few more with likes of Sloth, Erwin, Botaka etc. Like you say none of us know the real financial state of the club, we accept it is better by taking the word of Cellino and Steve Evans, both highly reputable figures in the world of financial affairs. Okay, I admit this post is just playing devils advocate to your but that's the trouble with a subjective view of progress. For me, I'll feel we've progressed when we go into games against team like the Wendies expecting to win rather than hoping to, when we've won more games than we've lost and we are 7th not 17th in January. That said I wish I could be as positive and see things like you
no I don't because we aren't Man city, your answer isn't an option so we have to look for a young Austin,Rhodes or Varney.Still waiting for you to invest 100 million myself.
In theory your post should give us hope. But cellino practically scrapping the scouting network, selecting and sourcing our acquisitions and turning the academy into a private school where you buy your way in means our chances of unearthing talent is much reduced....
The one thing all the wrist slashers on here have in common is none of them have any answers, apart from magic 100 million pound from thin air and buy loads of players.we don't need telling its not easy we know that already.
And what we really don't need are people kidding themselves and trying to convince others things are getting better. It's the hope that kills... We're ****e and we know we are.....
That's the sad thing for me, there isn't an answer... I know we will go nowhere under Cellino, we might manage to remain an average Championship team under his reign but to think that is our lot is pretty sad. I look at my home team Northampton Town, they are doing great this season, if they managed to get into Div 1 then the championship that would be like them winning the European Champions league, I would be well satisfied if they did that and remained in the Championship for as long as possible because reality check is, that would be their absolute maximum. Difference with Leeds is Championship is our maximum but shouldn't be if we hadn't done things so very wrong year after year. If it doesn't get fixed soon there will be no young supporters coming through, I have no idea what the average age of fans attending Leeds games is but I bet it is 40+?
According to McDermott when he joined us, we had no scouting network. He was going to try set one up. That was a long time pre Cellino
The ongoing problem we have Chesh is that even if we find a young version of these lads, if they make the required progress, their agents will quickly want them them moved upwards for the big wages and transfer fee. I reckon well have to just get lucky and some season get a bunch that will gel and almost fluke a promotion to allow us proper spending power as there will no be any magic owners throwing the 100m's around
When you were consulting your league table last night, did you think to compare it to last season? Of course you didn't. Why let facts get in the way of a good moan? Since you can't be bothered, let me tell you that our draw on Jan 17th hoisted us to 20th place from 21st. Surely using your criteria outlined in Point A "the only measure that matters", this is progress? What a waste of all your sarky and condescending comments, eh? So what's your next step - ignoring "the only measure that matters"?
Is this another opinion, or do you have a source for this info? Genuine question - I have no idea myself & will not be a happy bunny if this is true.
I suggest you go back & read the question that was originally addressed to me, which I answered clearly, and never suggested for a moment that it 'was on my radar'. Now just to clear it up, let me tell you that as a Leeds fan, I will always hope for promotion. Always. However, the realist in me will always temper that view, as required. But I will never give up hope until it's mathematically impossible.
