Don't rate the guy but credit where credit is due, Shelvey has barely touched down at Newcastle airport and he plays the game.

They still have a long way to go, but Newcastle has the outlines of a very entertaining, if flawed, team.

That's a really good goal by Newcastle.

Mitrovic hasn't been *that* mental (yet) bar his first couple of games. Wijnaldum still looks class.

Very quick paced today and defo a 'we will score more than you' mentality. Return to Keegan'esque' era. Entertaining stuff......especially against the Spam.......icing on the cake 'mi san, luverly jubberly'.

I wonder if LVG might be tempted in the summer.

Whether it's this year, next year or the year after, I don't think Newcastle is anything more than a stepping stone for him. And without him this season, they'd pretty much be sitting alongside Villa.

Signing Shelvey means that Wijnaldum can play further forward, as a no.10. Him and Perez and Mitrovic should be quite lethal with Shelvey supplying the passes.

Know who'd look great in a 5-3-2/3-4-3/whatever setup (assuming that they could come across a third CB of any quality)? Newcastle seems to love signing players who'd prefer to play CM or ACM, and then wedge them into awkward roles. They have creativity and forward movement through the middle, a fullback in Janmaat who wants to spend all of his time in the opposing half, and another who makes more than the occasional foray into the box, and they have a strong forward with pace paired with a fast, clever player with bags of skill.

    You'll never win anything with 5-3-2 ;)

Also Pelle in the same match and Tadic this season. I'd love to be a fly on the wall.during the DGP conversations.

I would have thought the way to decide an own goal or not was easy. My guide would be...

After the ball has been struck by the shooter, is the tradgectory such that the ball would be guaranteed to enter the net if unimpeded by any other player. If the andswer is yes, then the goal is awarded to the shooter. If there is the slightest doubt, then it is awarded to the last player to touch the ball [be that a player from the same side or opposition]

This means there was major doubt about the Fabregas and Eriksen goals. Aguero's may have gone in, but as there was still some doubt it's an own goal for me.

Compare that to Mane and Pelle's goals last season against Sunderland, for example, and Tadic's goal earlier this season, all of which were deemed own goals, and they are absolutely going to enter the net if unimpeded. Goals awarded to them then. But no, my quick and easy guide is obviously not the criterion used. Goodness knows what is. Probably more to do with promoting the star player than any measure of correct decision making.

To be fair the Sunderland player literally backheeled it into his own net.

I'll say the same as I said last season. Because there was so much talk about it at the time I looked at the goal again and again [I still have the whole match on HDD and am quite happy to put up the incident here as proof] The ball was on its way into the goal after it had been parried by goalkeeper Mannone because it had enough momentum. Bridcutt merely changed its direction again. Pelle's goal.

If you want I'll put up Mane's goal [van Aanholt own goal] too. :)

don't worry. these players come and go. They will always be recorded as Saint's goals. When Man U moan that Mane isn't worth the £50m they paid for him we can say what do you expect? You knew he had only scored 13 goals in 50 appearances for us, you should have bought Shane Long if you want a top goal scorer.

    City v Palace

    4th goal.

Anyone see Palace's Ward just as Silva finished? He did a great impression of a flapping fish... Now where did he play before?
