Allegedly NUFC have thrown £25m at Lyon to get the deal done. Feeling is, with the "I'm ready for the PL" comments, he's going to move for more or less this much in the Summer and NUFC have something serious to be built on. If I was the player, I'd be fairly interested, but we should not be forcing it. What's everyone's thoughts?
Allegedly, the offer we made was £18m, the player in the media said "not interested in leaving yet". Lyon were always apparently holding out for £23m. It may be rubbish, it's the Mirror, so probably is. I don't think we'll buy a striker this month now.
The boy's got real potential, if we could pull it off it would be amazing. We know how Cashly likes his players to have a sell on value. He will, big time
I can believe we've made the offer and we have previously talked about three windows to rebuild the team. Of course I'd be excited by the signing and if he added goals we're not quite converting then great but... a) I don't think he'll come to us b) It may limit Mitro's role and I think in the last couple of games he's starting to show what he's about c) I want defenders!! We've looked better recently but we've got the bare minimum we need at the moment and any injuries leaves us stuffed. For that money I'd hope we could sign a CB and LB and that would improve us more. Maybe get a loan striker in if we can instead (Remy) I hope we get him and in a few months i look an idiot for not just weeping with joy at the idea of him coming.
Do you seriously know much about him? I plead absolute ignorance on it - he's just another French name to me.
I'm not sure it will happen. I think it's spin to drive his value up. I think we'll buy another striker, but something shrewd. Mitrovic was a coup, Perez a delight, Arma's coming back.
Overall the transfer policy of just focusing on youth with good reputations could lead to us getting some quality players through our door with the assurance that if they kick on then they've put themselves in the window but it is a worry that we may not even look at the likes of Debuchy/Remy/etc who are very good players we may be able to convince to come back (even if just on loan). You need a balance and it's part of the reason we lack leaders on the pitch at times.
Andy Carroll handed in a transfer request though. He was ready to go before the club agreed to sell him because Liverpool offered to quadruple his wages. Knowing that he wanted to go and Liverpool were desperate to buy him, Ashley took them to the cleaners. I'm guessing this could be more like the Rooney situation, where we have a huge bid accepted by the selling club which alerts the real suitors to his availability and a huge club comes in and buys him. I'd be happy enough with Remy on loan for 6 months.
If this signing happens I'll actually start thinking that maybe Ashley has actually turned a corner and wants us to do well.
Where you getting this from? All I've seen this morning is we want Gomis. Well I'm underhelmed. **** Gomis.
He won't come to us. He's already said that. I do think either Perez or Sissoko will leave for £20m though.....
