It's like in a film where the missing piece of the puzzle is slotted into the contraption and everything starts ticking perfectly. The way he plays seems to perfectly compliment Wijnaldum who is just orchestrating the show up top. Really promising scenes!
Impressive debut, but FFS, we need to avoid falling into the Tiote trap and stop screaming at him to shoot everytime he gets the ball Can't blame him for listening to the fans on his debut when he wants to impress.
Not serious at all. More of a shoulder barge to push a player away. He did it right in front of the ref and you saw the ref explain to the player that it was a push away and accidental elbow. Nothing in it really.
Newcastle manager Steve McClaren: "Jonjo is a very, very good player with real potential and it will suit him playing in this team, a team of footballers." Well duuuhhh!
Both Shelvey and the opposing player apologised to each other straight away apparently. He looked great today. well worth £12m if he keeps that up. In fact I'd put him in the £20m bracket now.
Shelvey, or should I say Jonjo, had the effect of bringing our midfield further up the pitch. We weren't playing with 2 men in front of the back four all game and, hey presto, we played better and were more cohesive. It's not rocket science. He looked good on the ball and confident and the right side of aggressive. Wonder what Valley & Co think of the £12M in the Bank now their ex player has helped us go above them. Also Jonjo's pass for the second goal was sublime as was Janmaat's first touch and then cross.
Of course this is only his first game but I've got a good feeling about Shelvey. Sometimes you just end up with a good fit for player club and fans. I think just the change to having a CM that looks forward playing regularly in the middle will bring the level of others up and hopefully help the team start enjoying playing football again.
It was the difference in the midfield generally of getting their heads up more and pushing forward. I thought Wij was the best player on the pitch (yet again) and Shelvey complimented him well. The key test for me is how he reacts when we go behind because we have been crying out for people who still have positive intent when up against it - Wednesday was an exception. If he can play in the same manner even when we're losing then just make him captain now.
Liverpool never used Shelvey , we misused him at Swansea , Newcastle will get the best out of Shelvey for years to come .His temper can be a huge negative at times . Win for us getting rid of him , win for you for getting him .
Wouldn't it be so very nice to keep some of these footballers at the club for a few years. I've never felt so slightly optimistic about this club for approaching 7.5 years now. Last time being Keegan's second appointment. Oh, isn't it lovely to simply feel....that...thing...whassit called....wind....no....HOPE.
Good luck with him guys - honeymoon period at the minute but if things don't go his way he will **** on you like he did us! A great talent but a stinking attitude; thought he was far too good for us; bullied the youth players and tried to poison the dressing room. If things are going his way he is an asset - if they're not he will do everything he can to cause unrest and division.
Good game and had a positive impact. Long way to go and needs to replicate it, Remember Sissoko's debut? Tiote's first season? Just saying
