Wow, in support of Chippy, WH, all due respect but that was a long winded way of saying we're no nearer to the playoffs or any higher up the league than we have been for the past decade.
Keyword you ignored was 'Progress'. Did you read the OP? Progress has a wider arc of discussion than a specfic like 'the playoffs'. Also, the season is not yet complete, so all comparisons are subjective when it comes to the league table. We all know what difference a run can make, be it good or bad.
No disrespect but what makes your 'subjective' belief that we've progressed any more correct than my 'subjective' belief we haven't (which I base on league position and likelihood of promotion)?.
I thought I'd covered this already. The two areas you mention presently immeasurable, as we haven't finished the season yet, so can't compare with any previous season. Indeed, we could yet get relegated! Or promoted. We've no idea where we'll end up yet. We don't even know if we'll get any significant signings in the TW. Or indeed lose significant players. As for my ramblings, yes, they are subjective in as much that I do not know the exact financial situation, for instance. Or for previous years either. I can only go by what more informed commentators have told us, and they tell us that we were close to going bust, and aren't now. However, we do know some things, e.g the average age of players has dropped hugely, players have come through from the Academy, we've got rid of a huge amount of deadwood etc. I don't plan to re-state my OP. I thought I had made it clear enough. Note that I am not saying that it's all good, or that we're better, or any such thing. I'm simply saying that progress has been made in some areas, however some to choose to disregard it.
You will need to make some allowances for me at least. You see I don't operate at your intellectual level, I don't have certificates proclaiming me to be a Mensa member (oh that's right, neither do you). To a simpleton like me football is A) a results based business B) something to be enjoyed as an entertaining spectacle So on point A, performance is judged by results, and results are awarded points thusly, 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. These points are then as far as I understand used to rank our team against other teams we are playing. If I recall correctly this is known as a league table. Given you seem to be seeing some "progress" I consulted said league table last night and I am sure you will be shocked to discover we are 17th in the second tier. This not wrongly has lead me to conclude on the only measure that matters that we have made no progress in two years, despite a whole bus load of players and coaches been lauded as the answer to our problems. On point B, our performance and tactics are so dull that most here can't be arsed to get down to a game because they have concluded that it's not worth the outlay or effort. From my deliberations and personal experience I have to conclude the majority are right. I fully understand you want to cite potential but we are one mad mans hissy fit from seeing whatever green shoots you think you can see. I am sure between now and June the mad man sticking his oar in is more likely to occur than this potential you talk of bearing fruit. But whatever you think of my post. It can't be wrong, because after all it is my opinion.
