On the 12th September Odion Ighalo claimed his second goal of the season to provide the 1-0 win. The Nigerian latched onto a flick-on from Troy Deeney to calmly slot home, and give the Hornets a heroic win at Vicarage Road. Valon Behrami saw red midway through the second half, but the Golden Boys held on superbly to keep out Garry Monk’s Swans. It was a magnificent defensive display from Watford, who deservedly took maximum points. The teams that day were: HORNETS: Gomes (GK); Nyom, Prödl, Cathcart, Anya; Behrami, Capoue; Jurado, Ighalo (Berghuis, 70), Abdi (Watson, 66); Deeney (c) (Diamanti, 83). Subs not used: Arlauskis (GK), Holebas, Dyer, Ibarbo. SWANS: Fabianski (GK); Naughton, Fernandez, Williams (c), Taylor; Cork (Ki, 66), Shelvey; Sigurdsson (Eder, 70), Routledge (Montero, 60), Ayew; Gomis. Subs not used: Nordfeldt (GK), Emnes, Rangel, Bartley. Sent-off: Behrami (64) Referee: Bobby Madley Attendance: 20,057 (2,194 Swansea) Since then Gary Monk has left Swansea and Johnjo Shelvey has moved on in this transfer window. A comment from our match thread left by a Swansea fan after the game: Just got back to Swansea and to cap my day – it was raining! I hadn’t been to Vicarage Road for a few years and must admit to being surprised as it’s virtually a new stadium from the one I remember, and very impressive with it. On to the game, it was a disappointing result for the Swans, but there’s no complaints from me. Watford had the better of the first half and could easily have been one or two up. As for the second half the Swans performance became shambolic, like a rudderless boat, going nowhere. Once Watford got the goal, they were in charge and the sending off made no real change as the Swans continued to fail to impress. If we were still playing now we still wouldn’t have scored. If anything, Watford could and should have had a couple of breakaways, with only Fabianski keeping the score down. So a disappointing performance and result from the Swans. An important first win for Watford. I posted yesterday evening and one of your posters mentioned how you had improved defensively – that was plain to see today and will stand you in good stead for the rest of the season. So that was the September game, but what has happened since? Swansea have only had one win in their last 10 games, 1-0 against West Brom on Boxing Day. 3 draws and 6 losses sees them with 19 points from their 21 games, only one point above Sunderland who occupy the last relegation place. Watford meanwhile have only had one draw, 2-2 against Chelsea also on Boxing Day. 4 wins and five losses give them a total of 29 points from their 21 games and sees them sitting in 10th position in the league. Team News : Swansea defender Kyle Naughton is available after he won his appeal against the red card he received in the defeat by Sunderland on Wednesday. Manager Alan Curtis has a fully-fit squad to choose from for this fixture. Watford will have defender Nathan Ake available again after a three-match suspension and he is expected to replace Jose Holebas at left-back. Wherever you are in the world enjoy the game.
Was going to write one but beat me to it, Thanks OFH, let me kow if you want to share match threads from now on. I hope we can get a win here, 3 losses on the bounce hurt and make our weaknesses more highlighted. The sooner we get to 40 points the better, the squad have hopefully been talked to after the Southampton mauling. Onwards and upwards!
The next one is all yours Mex. I watched some of the Bournemouth v Norwich and Villa v Leicester games today, and while I thought Villa really appeared to be trying to rescue something from their current plight, Norwich seemed to be slow and totally void of any commitment in their game. If I were a Canary I would be very worried on that showing.
Watford are a terrific club and are doing well, I like them a lot . That being said , can ewe spare us 3 points . Shelvey got traded to Newcastle by the way .Guarentted line up Fab Rangel , Fernandez , Williams , Taylor Routledge , Ki , Britton , Siggy , Barrow Ayew .
Erm, no we can't spare you three points. Poor form or not there is enough quality to make a game of it.... and if we play as we did against Southampton then they will be yours for the taking. Interesting signature, we had Ian Bolton and Steve Sherwood who both played over 200 leagues games in all four divisions.
I was fortunate enough to completely miss the Southampton game. As a consequence of it, do you think that QF will bring in some different players? I assume that Ake will start.
In our last 4 league game we have let in 8 a boring 0-0 or we nic a 1-0 will do fine im going to the game and im the kiss of death .
thanks M Frenchie, great thread! You can't really look at the games of Chelsea and Spurs as both of them, had the officials been doing their job properly, would have given us 4 extra points. The City game was unfortunate, we switched off with 10 mins to go and Southampton? The least said, the better! Southampton was obviously a wake up call for players, manager and fans so hopefully, as we have most of the season, we will come back from the loss stronger than ever. i can only see us getting all three points tomorrow night, but then, i said that about Southampton! However, 1-2 is my prediction, and it will be a tough battle. You only need to have seen Villa's second half yesterday to see how a struggling team will fight.
Swansea City are set to appoint former Udinese manager Francesco Guidolin as their new head coach. I think Mark has posted this on the Udinese thread as well.
Haven't won any of those last 4 either , Like James Brown " I feel Good " about our game against you tomorrow .Safe trip for those travelling .
Not about the game which hopefully be entertaining an free from referee blunders. But what do you know about Francesco Guidolin who is apparently being introduced as technical director at Swansea tomorrow? Did he have much input and was your rise last season in any part down to him?
"Guidolin was appointed technical supervisor of Udinese, Watford and Granada in May 2014 after retiring as manager of the Serie A outfit. It was initially unclear what this role entailed, or what it potentially meant for Watford, but the Hornets subsequently confirmed Guidolin would primarily focus on co-ordinating the foreign scouts for the Pozzo’s two other European Clubs." This come from the Watford Observer. Input is not really known, but I had the impression that he was making sure the scouting system which is highly developed was functioning as it should.
Whatever imput he had , does he still have it? .Conflict of interest and all if he takes a job with us
I thought he'd left them at the end of last season! Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure I read he was unattached and available.
Great , that's what I wanted to know ...thanks blob...lol ....haven't called you that for a year or two .
Apologies to Watford fans ... a few left the Not606 Swansea forum as the clique made it un-viewable. Occasionally visit away forums which are generally far more civil.
