Surely we just play a higher line? Effectively were packing the midfield with 2 up top?
Maybe it will work, Bert playing a more defensive role. We can push up the field but have 1 defender in the back 3 with pace. I still don't think target is good enough with the ball to play wing back though.

It was a good cross that landed on Shane's head :)

Yes I know. Personally I need to see a few more games where he attacks well before I revise my opinion.

Targett definately deserves to keep his place, but fair enough that he misses out if Ron decides on a back four instead of five.

Koeman seems to be tinkering a lot more than last season, even more so since we dipped. What does that suggest? Not as happy with players? That teams have figured us out and we need to try different approaches?

His crossing has been so woeful prior to the assist Wednesday that it's fair to be sceptical. He always seemed to have a good delivery for u21s. I wondered if having the security of Bertrand behind him gave him the confidence to take a bit of time. Also he seems very reluctant to run with the ball.
All seem to be confidence issues. I think there is a decent player that can be coaxed out.

The higher line would make a difference if one of the three centre backs is allowed to push up, otherwise they'll just end up passing between the three of them at the back.

Isn't that what happened on Wedneday, with Virgil pushing up?

Pretty sure VVD would still go walk abouts even if he playing as a lone CB <laugh>

Well at the risk of being called a happy clapper or being unhealthily attracted to Koeman, dare I suggest it tells us he is a good coach. Isn't that what coaches do?

When things are going well, carry on. When things are going not so well, look for something different.

If course, I may just be simplifying things here :)

I think he's always favoured 3 at the back - it's the Dutch way - but recognised that you need the right personnel and you need the players to buy into the system.

As long as it isn't the Rodgers school of lotto tactics whereby you try everything becuase you have no ideas then I would pretty much go along with that. I don't think anyone could suggest Koeman is not a good coach. I think the only thing that has or should be asked is if he is the right coach which of course is very subjective and comes down to how we or the board or the players interpret how rigid each or all of our stated aims, ambitions are.

He's the right coach. No doubt in my mind.

Agreed. Lets get some momentum going; we had a formation and style with a smaller group of players last year that worked well from the start of the season but fell away because teams worked out to neutralise us,coupled with fatigue setting in. RK has shuffled the team and formation this season trying to find a balance and it worked during the week and WBA will set up defensively with one player up front; so the formation should suit Saturday.

I am not suggesting it will work every game, but as the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it'. So, RK - more of the same please :emoticon-0100-smile.

Anyone going to be at the Old Farmhouse pre-game? I'll be there from around 2 if you are!

On the day we sign Austin I think I'll be placing a wee punt on today's striker to bag a hat-trick. Will it be Long or Pelle?

    Long but he won't score a hat-trick.

I'll take a 1-0 win as long as they don't make us sweat! I think WBA will be set up to defend and we'll have to break them down

You're probably right but my logic of new striker signs plus current striker playing against old team makes it worth a punt.
