To me though Townsend is a Routlegde or a Nathan Dyer player (both of whom are better)

Nah, come on. I mean Townsend is an england player, or was until he got injured. He's bigger and stronger than them two.

Townsend is left footed so he'll probably play on the left, contending with Aarons for Left side of midfield. Sissoko won't make room for him on the right, even if Townsend prefers to play on the right.

Bit concerned we're buying strops it seems, Shelvey can be difficult..Townsends had a bit of a history himself. Hmm.

He'll need to prove his worth - let's just hope he does! he obviously has something or he wouldn't have made it into the England squad. He now needs to build on that and develop if he is going to establish himself as a proper Premier League player.

He's got goals i him, however it's going to be the classic case of everything being his fault when he doesn't track back.

You can't have both without paying megabucks so ffs stop moaning when he doesn't.

Hmmm. Desperate for strikers and desperate for defenders. We sign 3 midfielders. None of which appear to be the only type of midfielder we actually need, which is a defensive midfielder. I really hope these ****wits making the decisions know what they are doing.

    Slightly negative mate

Shelvey better than any cm player we have

    Saviet probably better who knows?

Obviously Townsend is better than Aarons and thauvin if we get him.

All we need is a top striker and a left back and I'd say we're better off by some margin and I'm actually saying that

So am I. But we have signed 3 midfielders. Like I said on another thread, though, if we can keep Colback and Anita out of the midfield that is no bad thing.

Sorry you didn't say that on this thread, so I thought I'd share my opinion based on what you said in this thread.

I agree, however im certain colback is Mclarens first name on the team sheet.

I can see him and Shelvey starting tomorrow and in all honesty that's probably the right thing to do because saviet has no experience in the premiership.

If he is fit Townsend is easily good enough for us. He is definitely capable of making things happen.

I haven't seen much of TOwnsend to rate him. But from what I have seen is he gets downthe line, something no one in our team does apart from Obertan. I think we need that.

Do we need a strop? No. Can we afford another 10+ mio flop? Well it's not our money but I'd assume Fat Mike won't be happy. It's another gamble. Shelvey is a gamble. Letting Tiote go is a gamble. Townsend for big money is maybe the biggest gamble of them all.

Can't see I expect all 3 to pay off. Meanwhile de Jong has an eye injury from a freak accident in training. He must have really messed with the wrong Haitians.

From what I have seen of him he tends to cut inside and his final ball is not too good. He has a good shot on him but tends to shoot too much. This can be coached out of him but he certainly isn't the finished article. Will be good to see him develop at Newcastle but that will be dependent on us not being relegated.

We're getting relegated, so hopefully these young players will get us promoted again

Wouldn't be surprised if his agent doesn't try to add a relegation clause.

Think he cuts inside because he wants to play on the right and he's left footed. You see every winger wants to play on the opposite side of his foot so they can cut inside and score and whatnot. Gone are the days of a young Ryan Giggs, when wingers were actually wingers and not tryng to score spectacular goals 4 times a match.
