A big time Charlie? It's a bit of a sweeping statement, but usually players who have had to work "normal jobs" before becoming professional are little more level headed. Scored goals wherever he has played is the fact I like about him. As you might tell i'm really excited about this potential signing. We know nothing is guaranteed and of course he has question marks or he would be out of our reach, but much prefer a proven player in this league now, than having yet another player who needs time to adapt.
I wonder if he remembers meeting me, outside Loftus Road, when waiting for Franny and Letiss to arrive during "the big run"? Nah, doubt it, but sign him anyway.
I only hope that he plays more than the last Charlie that played for Saints....Charlie George is a cardboard cutout
Well my mate was a bouncer in Swindon and looked after him in a VIP area [don't ask me I've no idea] and he said he was fine to talk to. Apparently was cheerfully discussing all sorts of football matters, he told him exactly how much he earned and what he paid in tax. He said he was okay, fairly normal. He did say there were loads of girls hanging around trying to 'get to him' but he seemed quite happy with his girlfriend. Who knows though, perhaps that was a 'good' night.
I don't understand the negativity around Austin. Unless his character is being called into question he strikes me as a possible Rickie replacement in terms of just showing others how things should be done. No messing about, no talking, just doing and that is what he does. Forget the Berahinos or Sterlings I would take Austin over both of those because he will provide some steel to the front we have been missing since SRL and something that Pelle should be bringing. No fancy flicks, no sulking, just doing what needs to be done. I think this could help our young poachers too. Hesketh, Sims and Seager could learn from Austin.
No thank you! No thank you! No thank you! Sorry Tom - could not resist it!! Not sure actually - his injuries concern me and his previous insistence of 85K per week. Happy to be proven wrong and hope the medical is very, very thorough - if its true.
What I remember most about Charlie George playing for us was when Flymo's first appeared and he lost the end of his finger in one! That about sums him up for me.

And another victory for hindsight! He was one of those rare natural talents and I was very excited at the time. Probably now out of print, but Lawrie's very readable "Diary of a Season" is an interesting insight into that saga. As for Austin, since that goal at SMS last season I have wanted to see him in a Saints shirt, so really hope this one is true.
He's a nice West Berkshire boy and from the same area as Theo. These two things alone gives him street cred with me. Snap him up.
It will be interesting how he performs in a Saints shirt, (assuming the rumours are right) Not sure he is the one for us but we do need something more up front and hopefully he fits the bill. We have no idea when Jay will return and although Pelle is on his way back it does give us a better option than we have now.
At the time of the injury, or when we were looking at recovery times, I mentioned Ryan Taylor at Newcastle. He was out for two years and I'm not sure what's happened to him since. He made a come back and broke down after a couple of games. Watching Jay at MK Dons this season, I thought he was on his way back to his best then.
