Absolutely. Klopp needs a better backup to Mignolet than Bogdan. Our Shane fits the bill perfectly!

 

Pelle should move in the summer as long as it suited ALL parties. He would be very hard to replace IMO though.
As for long, his wife wanted to move back down south (it was reported when he joined us). His tenacity and attitude make him a keeper for me.

We aren't Real Madrid....hard for us to have 3 tip top strikers. Long is a great back up/sub striker....and where else would we get one that runs like a duck.

 

Agree that we should keep Long and that Pelle will be hard to replace. However...

a young striker with bags of potential makes perfect sense as a January signing. We are all expecting to lose a couple of players in the summer and instead of relying on summer signings hitting the ground running (which we have been very lucky with recently) I'd much prefer to have had someone here for 7 months and a full pre season. All about who is available. Would be great to attract someone like Breel Embolo.

Pelle is pretty much a shoe in for the Italian Squad this summer(barring injury) and so is likely to be peak value. Business wise it would make sense to sell in the summer if we can get back the money we paid for him.

Can the black box find us a proper replacement is the biggest stumbling block

 

A few people I know have mentioned Townsend and Shelvey as players we should go for. Personally I don't rate either of them. They show flashes, but it's masked by vast spells of mediocrity.

Looks like Newcastle will be putting these opinions to the test. They both have outside chances of the Euros so should be well motivated.

 

I can understand Pelle wanting to go and he is not short of years under the belt but good grief, what is it about selling Pelle that is different to selling Schneiderlin or Wanyama or Mane? He's done a good job for us for the last two seasons. Not spectacularly good but he has carried the front line single handed and I'd keep him and bring in some support. We're supposed to be strengthening. If in the summer we sell VW, Mane and Pelle I dont see us coming back stronger. Plus the perception of the club takes another blow, we cant hold onto anyone. I think we need more threats up front in the squad with Pelle as our big forward. Jrod and Juanmi should have been that this season and we have to be looking at their replacement or development. We could end up needing three up front if Pelle leaves and we are not doing spectacular business recently.

End of the day it isn't up to us. I can see Pelle staying one more season after this one.

 

You're putting words into my mouth there. You tell me which of our signings have been spectacular? I used that word intentionally. VVD is the only one to settle quickly. Cedric I think will turn out to be a gem. Juanmi I think will turn out to be a flop. Romeu I think will be at least as good as VW, probably better but is taking time and so is Classie who I also think will be good next season. But that will be after a 12month settling in period and then if we sell Mane and Pelle and Jrod doesnt come right and Juanmi stays at his level we need a largely new front line to come out firing straight away. Thats going to be very hard to achieve and we dont have the track record to suggest we can do it.

 

Southampton have been backed into 5/6 to sign QPR striker Charlie Austin during this transfer window. It's now odds-against at 11/10 that he stays with his current club. Crystal Palace and West Ham can both be backed at 10s to sign him - Skybet

Noooooo, he can't go. My seven year old Long as the name for his shirt, I was quite impressed with that as Shane was not one of the stand out players at the time

 

Clasie has played 9 games. He is now just starting to settle and we are seeing the real him. 9 games isn't alot.

Romeu has played 14, so yeah I agree.
Van Dijk has played 17.

I to am worried about Jay.

 

This is starting to baffle me, it's been going on for a day or so now. I've not seen any stories linking him to us recently, and I understand that Ron ruled out signing him a while back.
